When 'Anthology 1 ' first came out i was utterly obsessed with this for months. Its such a gentle, innocent, fragile track and George's vocal is fabulous. I wonder why George had dropped this by the time they were recording 'Beatles For Sale ' as its not as if it would have been out of place as all 14 tracks are very mixed, would certainly have been better than 'Mr. Moonlight'.

I'm not a big fan of "Mr. Moonlight" either, but it's definitely better than "You Know What To Do". It's a little lame, and I'll bet he wasn't allowed to put it on the LP, but what do I know.

The only thing of worth in Mr. Moonlight is the first 3 seconds for John's vocals. Then it just goes to hell.

I felt the same way at first, but after the novelty of hearing a "new" Beatles' track (one of a select 'Anthology' tracks that hadn't been heard before) wore off, I came to appreciate it more for what it really is, a George Harrison demo of an interesting idea that never really amounted to anything more than that. If this were to replace 'Mr. Moonlight' on 'Beatles For Sale ' it would've weakened the collection, in my opinion. It's best suited exactly where it sits on the 'Anthology', an early glimpse of George Harrison 's blossoming songwriting skills..:-)

Yeah, thats my thoughts.
A little bit of improvement with the lyrics and input from the others on the musicianship (tho it wasnt very forthcoming from John and Paul) and i think 'YKWTD' would have been a worthwhile addition. Many Beatles tracks went thru changes before the final version was done; 'No Reply ' changed from the demo they recorded at the same time as this.

I will valiantly defend Mr. Moonlight till I die. It's a fine, throwaway cover. Not, to be completely fair, any different than Boys from Please Please Me .
As for the song, I literally have no memory this song exists. I mean, I remember the story now, but it's completely forgettable. At least Mr. moonlight is memorable.

I've posted this elsewhere, but it's an approximation of what the song might've sounded like had it been seen to fruition. Rumor has it this was may have been the 14th track for A Hard Day's Night had Ringo's whole tonsil incident not occurred.

Thanks for re-posting that, Duke. Taking it a step further, imagine that song featuring George's new (at that time) 12 string guitar. I would have loved a finished version of the song regardless of how/when it is was released (album track, B-side, etc...).
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

It definitely sounds like 'Christ' but I can't hear any more than that. I totally overlooked this track, I love the middle eight, and his voice is really strong here.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

Melodically rather slight, in my opinion. If it were spiffed up a little, it would have been a fine song, though (in my opinion) weaker than Don't Bother Me .
It verges from the sublime to the ridiculote

Nah. With some work done on it it would easily have been better than 'Don't Bother Me '. A highlight of the whole 'Anthology' series.
