Good Night is one of a handful of White Album tracks that I probably never listened to without listening to the whole album. And there are more that I used to listen to separately, but kinda don’t do anymore.
It almost adds some mystery to those songst. Weird, but that’s the way it is.
If I think about it, the White Album is my favourite album ever, but I don’t really break it down into songs and listen to them on their own. I rather like to listen to the whole album in one sitting once a year. Usually I start about one hour before sunset and then just sit on my chair while it slowly gets darker towards the end. There are a few songs that I often hear on their own like Helter Skelter , but for the most part it’s an album experience.
That’s why I can’t really rank the album tracks anymore and could never name Wild Honey Pie or Revolution 9 or whatever as a lesser song, because they’re all so integral to the album experience for me.

I have listened to Good Night on its own before and I think it flows well after Revolution 9 . I agree that The White Album album takes you on a journey.

I wouldn’t say these are the worst Beatles songs, some great neglected tracks by the general public methinks (and some surprising missing usual suspects), but here seemed as good a place as any, and I couldn’t think of a better fit: The 25 LEAST Played Songs on Spotify…

‘Revolution 9 ’, which would normally appear, will have been heavily streamed thanks to the 50th anniversary ‘WA’ release. It’s mostly the early albums and those haven’t been reissued in the last few years with new mixes so the focus won’t be there.
Strange that most of side two of ‘AHDN ‘ is here but not ‘I’ll Be Back ‘. I wonder how that slipped by as you’d think people would give up on the whole album side. I have no idea how Spotify works tho so maybe it’s not. [TWST is also absent so maybe the more ballady numbers feature on playlists].

So basically that’s 6:23 of Beatles For Sale and Please Please Me , with other assorted early tracks as padding.
Couple of interestkng songs there… You Can’t Do That and Every Little Thing are particularly surprising.

Looks like most people are giving up on ‘BFS’ after ‘EDAW’ considering most of side two but nothing of side one is included – unless i forgot ‘Mr Moonlight ’ being among the 25.

Sounds like a good hypothesis.
Mr Moonlight was indeed there…

I’m not sure how well that stands up as an argument for the absence of R9 in the bottom 25, when right at the bottom is Her Majesty , which you’d think would’ve benefited from the AR 50th anniversary release.

Could be explained by there being a stream of silence before ‘HM’ so folk are turning elsewhere beforehand whereas ‘R9’ is sandwiched between two other tracks so it plays thru. Or it starts, the count goes up, and they skip.

I think I found out which Beatles song is the weakest.
I haven’t listened to Carl Perkins’ Honey Don’t in ages, so I don’t want to compare. But don’t worry, there’s an even better comparison to put this lame-ass BFS filler in perspective.
I’m talking about the all-star live version with Ringo singing at the Concert for George. Knowing that rocking, energetic, eclectic, varied version with Albert Lees guitar solo and Gary Brookers piano solo and Ringo putting soul and heart into it makes the BFS version even more boring, repetitive, tedious and lame. It sounds exactly the same for three minutes. Once I’ve gotten used to the little pauses that accentuate the verses (in the Concert for George version) this becomes even more obvious.
Do this if you’ve got time:
1. Listen to the first link and try not to fall asleep while you’re shaking your head in disbelief
2. Listen to the second link and grin in joy
3. Listen to the first link again and shake your head again while you start crying
