With my list, I took into account the characteristics I look for most in music: sonic innovation, melody, song complexity, lyrics, and quality of recording. This is an attempt to be more objective, as opposed to just listing the Beatles songs I listen to the most.

1. A Day In The Life

2. Strawberry Fields Forever

3. Yesterday

4. Hey Jude

5. Eleanor Rigby

6. Let It Be

7. In My Life

8. Here, There And Everywhere

9. Happiness Is A Warm Gun

10. She Loves You

Baby’s In Black is quite a gem. Those harmonies on “Oh how long will it take” are fantastic. Really great song. If you can get 1 of 3 or 33% of those songs to your list of good songs i’ve succeeded.

The following people thank sir walter raleigh for this post:

Timothy, The Hole Got Fixed

"The pump don't work cause the vandals took the handles!"

-Bob Dylan, Subterranean Homesick Blues

"We could ride and surf together while our love would grow"

-Brian Wilson, Surfer Girl

When I hold you in my arms...

If you’re a fan of forceful Lennon vocals, you gotta appreciate this song. Harmony is heavenly too.

Hold Me Tight . Although most people don't like this song, i think it's a great rocker (although the bridge is a bit weird).

This Boy , Yes It Is , Sun King , Happiness Is A Warm Gun all stand out for different reasons, but all hauntingly beauiful in my opinion.

I actually remember when I first heard Happiness Is A Warm Gun . I was in my car with the CD player. When it transitioned to the ‘Happiness Is A Warm Gun ’ section, from 1.34 onwards, it was a brain orgasm. It was just so blissful, so right, like, yep, this is genius. The ‘when I hold you’ part just ratcheted it up to another plane of existence.

Love all those other songs Sir Walter listed, but also gotta say This Boy is a trademark Lennon vocal.

1.The Beatles 2.Sgt. Pepper 3.Abbey Road 4.Magical Mystery Tour 5.Rubber Soul 6.Revolver 7.Help! 8.Let It Be
9.A Hard Day’s Night 10.Please Please Me 11.Beatles For Sale 12.With The Beatles 13.Yellow Submarine

That's very much it, yup. Plus add to that Ringo keeping the beat in 4/4 while the harmony and melody goes in 3/4, or 6/8 or however you want to meassure it in the "When i hold you..." section... , plus the final falsetto...

Thank you very much for posting that video. Don’t know if I’ve heard it before.

John was such a great storyteller. Could listen to him for hours.

“That’s the bit I like.” - me too, John.

Ok, I've listened to them...

I'll start with Hold Me Tight . I must say, it's really grown on me! I definitely wouldn't keep it in my 'hate list' anymore, it's too good for that. I'll move it up to a 'a can enjoy this on occasion!'

Yes It Is : Nope, not for me. Dreary is the word that comes to mind. The vocals sound like they were all bored. The lead guitar is incredibly annoying. Ringo played all 12 (sarcasm...) of his notes correctly, but wow, what a hard and inspiring part he had...

Happiness Is A Warm Gun : Ok, this one is a tiny bit better. It's not going to get out of my hate list, however it may just have escaped being in my bottom 5. The main issue I have with it is the one I have with Bohemian Rhapsody: there's at least 4 different sections in it. None of the sections return. To me, that's distracting for the listener, and poor songwriting. Rule #1 - you must link back to what you've done earlier in the song somehow. Though it gets one gold star for the drums and bass, they're not bad. And ok, John's vocals are pretty cool too. But as a song? Sorry, the song after (Martha My Dear ) eclipses it completely.

This Boy : The recording is one of my biggest gripes. The drums sound weird, the bass is sometimes boomy, sometimes not, and the vocals have that weird phasing effect some of the early recording had, but is particularly noticeable and almost annoying on this one. Ringo's part so completely does not fit the song at all imo, the edit at 1:28 is an easy 5% off my score, and the overall mood is just a little too far away from what I like. Though the section at 1:00 isn't too bad. That bit wouldn't make too bad a verse, actually...

Finally, Sun King : The wandering around with the panning at the start annoys me. I can fully appreciate the chord progression, and the harmonies, however the entire time while listening to it I was constantly thinking 'is it time for Mean Mr Mustard yet?'. The guitar (unless it's a bassa-hard-days-night-george-4) is a little odd. It's sometimes a bit fuzzy, and other times very pure. The kick drum... my right ear is sore now! Ringo should have used his low tom instead of his kick, it would have been less invasive. The fake Latin is also another issue I have. This one I can appreciate, but I can't like it.

1/5 this time. a-hard-days-night-paul-10

Happiness Is A Warm Gun is a collage, encompassing the diffferent phases of rock and roll as John says. I guess people either like something or they don’t. Oh well. I’ll keep on loving these tracks. john-lennon-salute_gif

1.The Beatles 2.Sgt. Pepper 3.Abbey Road 4.Magical Mystery Tour 5.Rubber Soul 6.Revolver 7.Help! 8.Let It Be

So hard to pick only 10. I just thought of the ones I've never ever skipped while listening through the catalog, and tried to break it down from there:

1. Yesterday

2. Girl

3. Hey Jude

4. Because

5. Dear Prudence

6. She's Leaving Home

7. A Day In The Life

8. Nowhere Man

9. While My Guitar Gently Weeps

10. For No One

There's a chance this could change weekly though, depending to my mood ahdn_john_08_gif

To earn his day of leisure?

Love Girl. It has a beautiful wistfulness about it. My favourite part? When John draws in his breath.

Yeah, that's how I got my name. I like that part where John draws a breath, but I figured -John Sucks- wouldn't be a good username on a Beatles site, so I went with what John sings right before he draws the breath.

Top 10 Beatles songs:

    1. I Want To Hold Your Hand [Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand ]

Man, I remember when I first discovered I Want To Hold Your Hand and was listening to Past Masters

“Hey, I like that song, too”

”Hey, that’s the same song I liked before but in not English”

@Ahhh Girl

if your name was John Sucks (ironically, of course) that would be amazing. I wanna see an account on here named that with an explanation in the sig.
