1. That we all take it so personal when a song falters shows our love for their music…….Every song, (even Act Naturally ) has a fan.

I like Act Naturally !blue-meanie

Edit: But I think #210 is about right.

It should have been in the top 20 along with the other 50 songs which should have been there.

We just need someone to invent some new sort of math(s) so that we can all have our top tens in there 🙂

The top 30 is very John-heavy. I think it’s going to make a good playlist.

I like ‘Act Naturally ‘ a lot. Suits Ringo down to the ground and Paul’s support vocal is amazing as he’s not really singing harmony.

Oops! Lost track of the date. Thought today was the 20th for some reason!

30 lashes with a wet noodle! (of course, by now it’s the 22nd…next results tomorrow already, so 30 lashes for me too!)

025 (320) Twist And Shout – despite its importance, i think it’s too high (40)
=023 (322) Rain – even more overrated (60)
Revolution – surprised it’s so high, and unlike Piggies , the White Album Heal/Hurt Game convinced me to move this down a few notches (50)
=021 (323) Nowhere Man – a great song, but just a little too high at 21 I think (30).
Tomorrow Never Knows – ditto
020 (326) Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds – I personally disagree, this should break the top 100..eh, I’ll give it 75
019 (328) Dear Prudence – (5)
=017 (329) Happiness Is A Warm Gun – I think this is pretty fair (30)
A Hard Day’s Night – A great tune, but not quite this great (60)
016 (330) Penny Lane – (9)
015 (331) Day Tripper – “Merely” a top 100
=012 (333) Help ! – A great song, but again, not this great (60)
I Saw Her Standing There – I had this classic down around 50, but I’ll give it 25 next year 😉
Ticket To Ride – Another one that I had far lower, just in the top 100
011 (334) Eleanor Rigby – the 3rd of my top 10 (6) to go away in this last “outside the top 10” result set. Leaving me with 5 of my 10 in “our” 10. However, I’ve managed to talk myself out of thinking it’s something to be proud of…Sure, I matched up with half of 38 other peoples’ top 10 but I feel pretty vanilla :S So…I don’t think I can ever be truly happy – unless I’m actually listening to one of them right now! 😉

So, Twist And Shout  reigns supreme so far as cover versions go, and by a very long way. Part of that is surely the mythology around its recording, but it’s also one helluva performance. 15 songs make up these ten positions, which leaves ten songs and ten positions – therefore, despite all the speculation, there are no ties in the top 10.

It most definitely was one helluva performance, every time they performed it.

If there are no ties in the top 10, I wonder what the high score is? I’ll venture 336 for #10 and 351 = exactly 9 average for #1.

I predict #1 will be The End . Sorry if I just jinxed it, anyone else who wants it #1 😉 In increasing order from #10 to #1 (my rank is in parens):

I Am The Walrus

Norwegian Wood

Something (17)

While My Guitar Gently Weeps (26)

Here Comes The Sun (12)

A Day In The Life (7)

In My Life (4)

Strawberry Fields Forever (3)

Abbey Road Medley (2)

The End (1)

Half of what I say is meaningless...

I feel good in a special way, I'm in love and it's a sunny day

Yeah, that’s awful alright.  a-hard-days-night-ringo-14 I wonder how Ringo could do it so much better? Maybe his accompanists?

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

The original isnt bad, tho that live version is poor (doesn’t help watching it when its badly out of sync). It’s never going to be a great song.

The Ringo and Buck collaboration was dire. Presumably it was only included on ‘Photograph – Best of’ album in the hope some got thinking it was the Beatles version having never heard of another Ringo cover. Its got that horrible 80’s shit country sound.

A little surprised to see ‘The End ‘ coming in at #10, thought it would be a little higher. And there goes Paul’s last solo Beatles lead vocal.

Any of these 10 could place anywhere and my comment would be all could be placed higher.

I was thinking the same thing.  I thought The End and Something should be higher, but who would you take down out of the top six to make room for them?

I passed the point of being surprised by any of the results anymore. Now, it is just a matter of curiosity.

Oh you teases, I was wondering why there wasn’t number 6 today.

Paul has such a big fan-base here that it’s weird none of his songs made it to the top 5. Although I’m pleased to see George still hanging in there with his 2 best songs (IMO).

That’s a good point ET.

Everyone can name 2 of George’s top three…….probably most of us his top 3 as reflected here.

I’ve a sneaking feeling that even some of the love for Norwegian Wood was for George’s sitar.

As it is……There’s a debate about how much of In My Life is down to Paul…..The beautiful melody he claims is his. I think he was claiming it even when John was alive……..Other’s here will know if that’s true or not. If it is I’ll take his word.

And ADITL owes much to Paul as well as John……Which is partly why it will always be my….”If you could only have one Beatle’s song what would it be?” choice.

During John’s life, @Wigwam, Paul’s claim was to having worked on the tune in the “middle-eight”. It is only since John’s murder that more and more of In My Life  has been down to Paul, according to Paul. There’s a discussion on it in a thread somewhere.
