Offline Honeslty speaking, I wished we could’ve had a demo of “Sexy Sadie ” with the original lyrics. I’m not a big fan of swearing, but I think even I’d crack up just a litle bit hearing John swearing and cussing at Yogi. George just had to be a killjoy and sweeten the lyrics.

I got 2 theories on that:
1. The Beatles weren’t intentionally trying to sneak “dick” in, it was just because that part of the song they have to sing the word fast in between other words, maybe they thought it would sound worse if they pronounced it properly. Listening to the song again, I notice they DO pronounce “dich” properly later in the song when they sing —
Du glaubst sie liebt nur mich
Gestern had ich sie gesehen
Sie denkt ja nur an dich
and also
Entschuldige dich bei ihr
2. They were trying to sneak “dick” in and the reason they pronounced “dich” correctly later (see above) was to signal the audience “see? we know how to pronounce it correctly, but we’re avoiding doing that on purpose in the other parts just so we can say dick 17 times! (giggle giggle)”

Offline The lack of swearing, or very limited instances of it, is another reason why the Beatles music lives so long IMO. If something has obviously crude language it’s just not going to be mainstream, period. Thus limiting its appeal across demographics and locations – eg. sporting events, etc.
