Having never been high, I can only say that, when I'm sad, I like a lot of the dark, grungy stuff from the White Album . John knows how to empathize with personal turmoil, no? Happy listening!

I second your entire post, that's pretty much me. Don't Let Me Down is good when you're sad too.

"What happens to them?" insisted Milo.
"Oddly enough, they often grow ten times the size of everyone else," said Alec thoughtfully, "and I’ve heard that they walk among the stars."

When I'm sad: Yesterday , I'm Down , A Day In The Life , Abbey Road Medley, and Calico Skies(solo Paul)
When I'm high: pretty much anything from Revolver and Abbey Road

I would honestly never listen to the Beatles when I'm very sad (well, intentionally listen), because why do I want to associate my mood to that song, and ruin it? I would honestly listen to a more Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (Neil Young) or Sigh No More (Mumford and Sons) album.
(Never been high in my life, but Twist And Shout seems like the ultimate song to play someone who's hungover - such upbeat spelled when they feel shitty. Seems like a hoot for the sober.)
As if it matters how a man falls down.'
'When the fall's all that's left, it matters a great deal.

I disagree, Twist And Shout would be pretty annoying if you had a hangover-associated headache.
Like you, I don't do drugs (or drink) and don't plan to for the forseeable future, so I wouldn't really know on this subject.

some of my favorite high songs from the fab 4 are A Day In The Life , Lucy, Within You Without You , Long Long Long (that thing at the end is awesome!), Tomorrow Never Knows , Im Only Sleeping. Just to name a few.... really like all their songs under the influence :p
I havent been "sad" in a couple years really but Good Day Sunshine aslways puts me in the right mood!

When I'm in good mood I love listening to the Abbey Road Medley, the Please Please Me album, Help , I've Just Seen A Face, Drive My Car , And Your Bird Can Sing , Rain , Lucy, Good Morning, Back In The USSR , Helter Skelter , Revolution , The Ballad Of John And Yoko , Two Of Us , I've Got A Feeling, Get Back
When I'm melancholic I often listen to Don't Let Me Down, Across The Universe (Naked version), A Day In The Life , In My Life , Norwegian Wood , Nowhere Man , Happiness Is A Warm Gun , Dear Prudence , I'm So Tired, Strawberry Fields Forever , Let It Be , Something , While My Guitar Gently Weeps , You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, No Reply ... and many others.
Hmmm ... I just recognized that I prefer mainly John's songs when I'm in a sad, melancholic mood.

I don't get high and I drink in very very small amounts, a beer or a dram now and then, due to having autism and we autistics don't react the same to drugs and alcohol.
And I don't really listen to any music when I'm genuinely sad or depressed. When I'm just in a mild funk and want to be cheered up Magical Mystery Tour never fails. Generally the Bealtes can put me in a better mood, and depending on my mood, I'll listen to different songs to pick myself up.
I'm not a girl who misses much.

When sad - There really aren't any songs that can cheer me up all by themselves, but something uptempo can provide some kind of comfort - except pre-1965 stuff, which just sounds extra-melancholy for some reason. The last Beatle song I found myself enjoying while I was essentially unhappy was, inexplicably, "The Ballad of John & Yoko".
When high - Nothing doesn't sound great to me when high! (Not that I'm anything near a full-time stoner; if I was, the novelty would wear off.) Even something trivial like "Hold Me Tight " or "Wild Honey Pie " reveals heretofore overlooked sonic details or half-imagined particularities of performance when listened to through a THC haze. As for the really good stuff, I'm partial to things with many layers of tracks and (especially) guitar-string frequencies, such as "Dear Prudence " and "And Your Bird Can Sing ".
One day, a tape-op got a tape on backwards, he went to play it, and it was all "Neeeradno-undowarrroom" and it was "Wow! Sounds Indian!"

The Ballad of J&Y always cheers me up too. It's very uptempo and bouncy.

Let me be not a blue meanie by saying what I'm saying.
When I'm sad and lonely and nobody likes me (happens often): something with Ringo's vocals, as Rinnie the meanie knows how to cheer; and Norwegian Wood .
When I'm high, jump and scream a lot: Slow Down , Maxwell's Silver Hammer and Johnny B. Goode.
