Not 10 minutes ago I heard ‘The Pound Is Sinking’ for the first time, and I must say, I can’t understand how I missed that one.a-hard-days-night-paul-10  But what happened next was what was really amazing:a-hard-days-night-ringo-6I heard ‘Here Today ‘ for the first time.  It’s so good that I listened to it like 4 times in a row…  Looks like I need to get more into solo Paul.a-hard-days-night-paul-11

Obviously I’ve known it for ages, but I’ll Be Back is really resonating with me at the moment. Myself and a girl a year younger than me have fallen for each other, I started seeing her because as far as I was concerned, I wouldn’t be going to university this year, after I took a nap in my Psychology paper. My uni let me in nonetheless, but I have to go, quite honestly. A beautiful song that seems to be the soundtrack of my life at the moment.

I’ve had Ringo’s self titled album for a few years and have always loved it, but I was never too keen on Sunshine Life For Me (Sail Away Raymond) until recently. It might now be my favorite Richard song.

Oh wow, you’d not heard them before? Suck beautifulness you have been missing out on a-hard-days-night-paul-5

Well, your timing is impeccable, because those songs are two of what I think of as ‘the (dedicated to) Olivia trio’ on his eponymous album, and tomorrow is their anniversary. ahdn_george_06

I was never a huge fan of Maxwells Silver Hammer. I just heard it again, and it all of a sudden flipped on me. I’m remembering  a New Orleans style brass version, and I’ve never heard it the same way since.

Taken from ‘Holly Days‘ (a tribute album to Buddy) which was credited to Denny Laine but its basically the core of Wings (Paul and Linda proved backing vocals and many instruments). The below is my favourite; the harmonies are gorgeous.

Thanks to meanmistermustard for that link.  I never knew about that Buddy Holly tribute album.

Some thoughts while I listen:

Heartbeat — someone should follow the implication here and turn this into a full-blown African pop song (e.g., Hugh Masekela stuff, or Paul Simon’s Graceland album).

Moondreams — sounds like it could be a Harrison song.

Rave On — harmonies galore (I wonder if that’s Paul doing the periodic vocal Hollyisms that sound like spastic scat?)

I’m Gonna Love You Too — sounds nicely reggae-ish (but as with Heartbeat, it should have been more explicit)

Lonesome Tears — nice version, but the low-tech production/engineering miss out on what could be a strong rock pop cover

It’s So Easy — very pleasant, laid back folk/pop/rock ambiance

(I’m only mentioning the ones I like enough to mention…)

A ginger sling with a pineapple heart,

a coffee dessert, yes you know it's good news...

Don’t say a word about Girl to @Ahhh Girl. Should she somehow notice your admission to only a very recent acquaintance you are sure to get a spanked behind. She is a fearsome lady. I would delete all references to Girl and pray someone else hasn’t quoted you and/or drawn her attention to your post.
