I was waiting around with my guitar the other day and someone asked me what I can play. I responded with “pretty much any Beatles song” so he asked me to play I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party . I got through it pretty sloppily, but I was extremely impressed with the pick as well as obsessed with that song for a while afterward.

As with most of The Beatles’ recordings… It’s Ringo’s drums that make this the classic record that it is… Eric’s wailing and John’s emotional vocals aside… Ringo’s beat is at the Heart of what makes ‘Cold Turkey ‘ so effective (every heartbeat is potentially your last…) … Just listen to it again and you’ll know…
Don’t know if this “qualifies” but, I just watched the timeless ‘Yellow Submarine ‘ film for the first time in many years and was most surprised to hear ‘A Beginning’ (from ‘Anthology’ “fame”) showcased there “in plain sight” while establishing the setting, if you will, for the film… I do remember the ‘Anthology’ (cassette in this case) liner notes saying something about this being targeted as a possible intro to the ‘White Album ‘ utilizing the same musicians that George Martin employed for the film but don’t recall it actually being used during the movie (shows you how long it’s been since I last viewed it)… Great Film… and it wouldn’t be what it is without the soundtrack… George Martin at the height of his powers…:-)

I’ve grown to really appreciate Thank You Girl over the last few days. I love the build up of the harmonica intro, as well as the energy in John’s voice when he sings “AND ALL I GOTTA DoOoO…!”
Solo wise, I’ve been on a disco-era Ringo kick recently. As you can tell from the thread I made, You Don’t Know Me At All is my current favourite track of his, followed by Just A Dream.

I haven’t just discovered it of course, but I’m enjoying All I’ve Got To Do right now. With The Beatles is an album I’ve probably got to focus on a bit more. But that song in particular, just love it. Great vocals and the melody is light and catchy. “And the same goes for me….”

I love listening to that album while driving. ‘It Won’t Be Long ‘ is in my top ten. From there, it’s one hand on top of the steering wheel and the “Ringo head bob” all the way.

Funky Paul is the best Paul. I love more recent live versions of songs like Coming Up , where Paul Wickens absolutely rips on Clav

Love that one so much. Especially the rooftop concert version where he briefly forgets the words and makes some up.

I’ll have to have a listen to that version! I love hearing all the little oddities in the songs 🙂 I remember on the Back in the World Tour, on the cd Paul forgets a bit of the words to You Never Give Me Your Money and he sings something about “this is the bit where I don’t know the words, don’t know if I’ll learn them before the end of the tour” (or words to that effect!) and it always makes me giggle 🙂
