According to Paul, love is to share — George and Eric just took that a bit more literal than most people…
I fancy Paul never tried it.

I always chuckle at the line, “We all know ob-la di-bla da, but can you show me where you are?” because while it is true that we all know ob-la di-bla da today, at the time the album came out no one knew it (except those who had already heard it on side one).
Is this line meant to be a criticism of Paul? It seems as if George is asking Paul whether he can be less fake.

Expert Texpert, you forgot that most people listened to new albums from start to finish, so almost everybody back in 1968 heard Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da before Savoy Truffle and on top of that, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da was recorded first and was released as a single, so it’d be absurd to think anyone heard Savoy Truffle before Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da , it’s like thinking that people heard Because before they heard Something . As for the meaning of the line, It seems to me that George wants Paul to be more serious with his music instead of the childish psychedelic rock The Beatles had previously spewed out.
Maybe you should try posting more.

Not until 1976. It was released in some countries in 1968, mainly European, but didn’t see a single release in the UK or US until 1976.

I wasn’t suggesting that people dropped the needle on Savoy Truffle first. As I said above, George could not have truthfully made the statement that “we ALL know” Ob-la in 1968, since only the people who had heard it on side 1 knew what it was.

Or perhaps pointing out that everyone can wear a mask but never show their true selves. Probably not Paul specific, it sounds like he’s using Ob-la di-bla da as a way of saying “we all know ah blah blah blah blah BUT etc” ie “we all know you can say this and that but can you demonstrate where you’re coming from?” or actions speak louder than words. Remember, this is a song about Eric’s sweet tooth, perhaps he’s reminding Eric that he can say he’ll not give in to his addiction but can he actually demonstrate it. Perhaps he’s talking about drugs. Would this be about the time that George went on an anti-drug thing (even though he would relapse himself)?

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

I was listening to the isolated left channel to this song, and I’ve noticed an incredible amount of tape delay on the drums for this song. The snare drum is very bottom heavy, as though he played it with a sheet on top. Add that to the tape delay (just one cycle, but surprisingly loud), and the drums sound very different on this track compared to other tracks.

I knew it was a technique, as I’ve used that technique before, but I had no idea that he actually did use a sheet! Thank you very, very much @Dark Overlord, you made me feel very happy just then!
Also, cool pics!

I’ve known it for awhile myself, great for when you don’t want the notes to sustain. By the way, I think he likes to use tea towels.
Anyways, I thought I’d post a picture that I have confirmed in another thread is George during this session, it looks like he’s recording the guitar solo overdub using his 1957 Gibson Les Paul Lucy in the bridge position.

Reminds me of Spector’s wall of sound, and how he would wash the drums with reverb using sinilar tecniques. Instant Karma is my favorite example.

Didn’t the tea towel start during the ‘Revolver ‘ sessions? Or was that when they were stuffing jumpers in the bass drum to get a more deadened sound.

After already loving it for many years, I think today I’ve got the enlightenment that Savoy Truffle is a clear top 20 Beatles song.
George Harrison should have had 1 song on AHDN and BFS, 2-3 on SPLHCB and MMT, 2 more singles in 1968 (because I can’t change the White Album ) and at least 4 songs on Abbey Road . Everything below that is a major crime. Saying ‘he finally caught up on Abbey Road ‘ is false in my eyes, he was on J’s and P’s level almost from the beginning.

I completely agree. It’s such a weird blind spot of Paul’s. He wasn’t as prolific, but at the very least how can he ignore Taxman and While My Guitar Gently Weeps ?
My hot take is that after the Beatles split they went down the paths of spiritualism, solipsism, alcoholism, and Paul McCartney
