The Video Info:
Now And Then ‘s eventful journey to fruition took place over five decades and is the product of conversations and collaborations between the four Beatles that go on to this day. The long mythologised John Lennon demo was first worked on in February 1995 by Paul, George and Ringo as part of The Beatles Anthology project but it remained unfinished, partly because of the impossible technological challenges involved in working with the vocal John had recorded on tape in the 1970s. For years it looked like the song could never be completed. But in 2022 there was a stroke of serendipity. A software system developed by Peter Jackson and his team, used throughout the production of the documentary series Get Back , finally opened the way for the uncoupling of John’s vocal from his piano part. As a result, the original recording could be brought to life and worked on anew with contributions from all four Beatles. This remarkable story of musical archaeology reflects The Beatles’ endless creative curiosity and shared fascination with technology. It marks the completion of the last recording that John, Paul and George and Ringo will get to make together and celebrates the legacy of the foremost and most influential band in popular music history.

Rube, kelicopter, RichardIt seems that the Beatles store exclusives are white marble, light blue, and clear 7″ vinyl, and red 12″ vinyl. Not sure if the cassette is available elsewhere. I think the black vinyl versions are available elsewhere but I’m not 100% on that.
The red vinyl 12″ seems to not be available on https://ukstore.thebeatles.com/ – it’s shown on the front page of thebeatles.com, but when you click through to the UK store only the black 12″ is there.

Joe said – “Note that some say things like “(2023 Mix) – from (2015 Mix)”, which I don’t understand.”
That’s easy…The mastertape used for the new 2023 mix is directly remixed from the mastertape of the 2015 mix rather than the original, so instead of starting from scratch with the original 1965 master of ‘We Can Work It Out ‘ (for example) they went directly to the version released on the remix of the ‘1’ compilation album.
They’ve remixed the remix of the remaster of the original mix…make sense?
Joe also said – “Or buy my paperback/ebook! Riding So High – The Beatles and Drugs“.
YOU wrote that?? Congratulations and well done! I haven’t read it yet but I’ve only heard good things about it. It’s on my list and I’m looking forward to it….a little bit less than I’m looking forward to Mark Lewisohns’ ‘Turn on’ but that’s a very high target to beat so don’t take it as a negative comment.

It’ll certainly be nice to hear the song, as well as of course to have the remixed and expanded Red and Blue albums, with finally paying due credit to George.
I would argue, though, that it would make sense if the expansion of Blue also included Free As A Bird and Real Love , and the MAL system should’ve been used to clean up John’s vocals on those as well to make them sound more like the Now And Then vocal. Maybe they’re saving that for the future. Also, maybe doing so would require them having to approach those two songs with a completely new remix, different from the Anthology and 1+ mixes. If so, it would be nice to hear another pass at them.

Well. November 2nd. What am I supposed to do until then!! I almost cried already, what with Paul playing slide guitar in place of George, Ringo doing backup vocals, and especially Love Me Do being the B side. Do they want us to bawl our eyes out????? November 2nd. November 2nd…

Well, 12-inch disks are bigger, for one, and there’s more playing time on them. However, in order to do this they often have lower volumes than 7-inch disks.

The second single I ever bought was ‘Stars On 45’ by ‘Starsound’ in 1981. I slowly realised it was a mish mash of snippets of songs all made by one group, (you know their name), (though for some reason it starts with ‘Sugar Sugar’ by a cartoon group called ‘The Archies’). I loved every section of that single and saved up my paper round money to buy a copy of ‘1962-1966’ on cassette.
I played that cassette for months on end and it has led me on a 42 year path of books, records, BETAMAX tapes, (way better than VHS), CDs, figurines, DVDs, BluRays…yaddah yaddah yaddah…
I don’t think I like the new tracklisting. Songs like ‘This Boy ‘, ‘Roll Over Beethoven ‘, ‘You Really Got A Hold On Me ‘ et al water down the impact that made the original release change my whole view of life, (that’s not an exaggeration of the effect that cassette had on me, I’m really looking forward forward to a 4k release of ‘Give My Regards To Broad Street ‘ and that film is bloody awful!)
It’s nice to see the Red and Blue albums finally reach a proper price point, (on CD at least), but I don’t think this track listing will ever have the same impact on anyone.
That’s not going to stop me pre ordering these releases as soon as I’ve posted this but I’m a bit sad that something so…full of colour…has been redone in pastel.

As above but before the internet turned up a 7 inch (7″) release was usually a single, 1 song on side A and 1 on side B. Radio stations would almost exclusively only play A side songs from 7″ releases and back then it was released to radio stations sometimes months before the album, 12 inch (12″), was available for anyone to buy and take home.
Back then I used to wish we could have a way to access the music immediately like we can now. Now…? I wish we could go back to the anticipation and the chase we had back then. It made the music so much more important.

Why is the German market so different to other markets? There’s been other comments about the previous remix releases where you don’t have the same options as elsewhere yet when I wanted to get an Xbox Series X I was told to sign into German sites because you had better supplies.
I ordered the vinyl of ‘Now And Then ‘ too. Let’s get The Beatles their 18th UK No.1 hit!

I’m in school right now, but once I’m home I’m preordering that bad boy!!! I can’t wait. For some reason, I was expecting it to be much more expensive. I’m not complaining, however!
