Love You To has lame lyrics, IMO.

Meh, the thing that I don’t like about the song is George’s voice on it. Ugh. It’s so… drony.

I like the line about the people standing round who’ll screw you in the ground.

**removing arrow from my heart**

I guess his songs/lyrics/voice are not for everyone. I understand that. I still like all things George that I’ve heard so far. As for the “drony” voice you mentioned (I could be wrong here), I always felt that was on purpose – similar to John’s in Tomorrow Never Knows .

Joe said:

Least favourite lines: “I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping/Still my guitar gently weeps”

Great song, but that couplet really is awful.

Joe – in the article you wrote about the song, George mentions that…

“I was thinking about the Chinese I Ching, the Book of Changes… The Eastern concept is that whatever happens is all meant to be, and that there’s no such thing as coincidence – every little item that’s going down has a purpose.”

I may be reading more into that than there really is,  but I interpret that to mean “while (X) is happening, so is (Y)”. The “gently weeps” part he explained as being the first words he saw upon opening the book.

So, just reading the words of the song could leave one thinking, “what the Hell is he talking about?” But knowing (or at least interpreting) what I explained, it seems a little less random.

Am I way off base here? Even if I am, it works for me. This is still one of my all-time favorite songs.

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

I think I like George's voice more than his lyrics. I love his lyrics, but usually it's just the way he says something that makes his songs great. He sort of had a very plain voice at the beginning, it wasn't really bad but compared to the other two it just wasn't as good. Then he just started writing more honest songs and really let his emotions and love come through in his lyrics and he seemed to have found his voice. My favorite line of his would have to be “and I say, it's alright.” His voice sort of breaks because it's such a loving thing to say.

Well that shows that even Beatle fans can't agree with favorite lyrics a-hard-days-night-george-8

Mhhh something interesting about George's voice.. he had something that I can't explain… (mhh something in the way he sings?? a-hard-days-night-ringo-7) like in the song “Between the Devil and the Blue Deep Sea” I mean you can almost see his face singing, I don't know he sings in such personal way that it seems he's there in your room. That's something the Beatles have .. but I feel it more in George.

Or maybe it's just a wish…. .a-hard-days-night-george-9

Yes, you can hear him smiling while he's just strumming the ukulele in that song. “IIII forgive you, cause I can't forget you,” that line gives me chills.

I was just listening to While My Guitar Gently Weeps and I think the lyrics to this are brilliant. If you look at it as a lament of how no one is taking care of anyone (or anything) anymore, the line about the floor fits. a-hard-days-night-george-10  Work with me, here…  🙂

The song freaked me out a bit when I was younger. I just remember hearing it and thinking the lyrics were just so dark. Even then I picked up on the sadness over what I see as wasted potential.

I'm not a big fan of the droning Blue Jay Way , but I find it works in Love You To . I barely notice he's holding on to the same note, but maybe that's why I really like the endings of the verses, how it breaks from that when he sings “hang a sign on me-eee-eee,” and so on.

You know, this is unfair! 🙂 My favorites would probably be While My
Guitar Gently Weeps, Old Brown Shoe , and It's All Too Much, whereas my
least favorites are probably Piggies and Blue Jay Way .

Um… yes.

What else would I mean? Should I have said “on my account” instead?

Come to think of it, I find the quote in my signature really amusing. but if it has to be from a beatle song, I'd say either a line from Savoy Truffle or Piggies .

Fave: While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Least fave: Blue Jay Way . The “please don’t be long”s take up so much of the song.

I think “The Inner Light ” has pretty good lyrics. Incidentally I only heard the song recently having just bought “Past Masters “. I used to have the album “Hey Jude ” and for some reasons they included the A-side “Lady Madonna ” but not the B-side

"Oh no! What a mad blundering, incredibly handsome young nincompoop I've been! "

Now that I read through the thread, I realise I never answered the question. Um, oh god this is hard, um, Not Guilty . Although he does it much better on 1979's George Harrison .

I Want To Tell You as it really does sum up how difficult it can be in communicating with someone.

Weakest – Blue Jay Way . Doesnt really say anything and i agree about the 'dont be longs' being too many.

This is hard. Erm… I really like Taxman 's lyrics. “Let me tell you how it will be, there's one for you nineteen for me!”

And I agree with Blue Jay Way as being the weakest. Plus that song has always sort of scared me.

Because the wind is high, it blows my mind.

I like “I want a love that’s right, and right is only half of what’s wrong” and “All the world is birthday cake, so take a piece but not too much.”

I think Within You Without You lyrics are the best personally.

I think it's great you're going through a phase,

and I'm awfully glad it'll all be over in a couple

This might be crazy, but while the lyrics aren't the most beautiful or meaningful, “Only A Northern Song ” contains some of my favorite George lyrics out there.  The whole song just seems very George, and upon reading the backstory behind the song, it seems extremely biting and sarcastic every time I hear it.  I am actually surprised that Lennon and McCartney were fine with him recording such a bitter song towards them.  Maybe it went over their heads.

“If you think the harmony
Is a little dark and out of key
You're correct, there's nobody there

and I told you there's no one there”

“Lennon and Macca couldn't give 2 shits about this song so they didn't help with the harmony.  Thanks you jagoffs!”

Again, it's not overly deep, but when you learn a bit about George and his personality, this song is so George it's not even funny!

I love his songs, all (I think)

But my favorites are: I Want To Tell You (Helps me understand I'm not the only onea-hard-days-night-ringo-13 Thanks George) Taxman is excelent too, Within You Without You is not for everyone I guess, but the lyrics are beautiful along with The Inner Light .

I like Blue Jay Way , but the lyrics may not be his best one. Now with Piggies … I don't like very much that song, but the lyrics are not bad because he's criticizing in a not so obvious and funny way.

This is la la la la love! – George Harrisonheart

Please! Tell me what you think! and I hope you won't  laugh haha.
