I’m not so sure about Paul not wanting to release Let it Be because he looks like a controlling tightass. People know Paul is controlling in the studio, and he knows they know. That footage with his and George’s fight isn’t even that bad. Don’t some people claim that is why George walked out on the session? They forget to mention the fight George had with John before he walked out, and John’s willingness to replace him with Eric Clapton. Now that looks bad.

As for Carnival Of Light , I’d like to hear it, too. I wonder what George’s reasoning on this was. Did he do it just to spite Paul, or is his abhorrence for avant garde that great? Either way, his (estate’s) position on the matter sucks.

Every time I encounter George’s “avant-garde a clue” pun, I think to myself “LOL come on George, give yourself a little credit – you’re the one who got the others into Indian music, the one who bought a Moog synthesizer, and the one who released “Wonderwall Music ” and “Electronic Sound ” as your first solo records!”

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

What about other things like other takes that haven’t been on bootlegs and/or cleaned up? I would love to know more on SFF Takes 9 through 24 (I think that’s the right number).

Paul doesnt want Let It Be out because of the negative light it places on not only himself but of the band, its not that ‘beatles are great and happy making great music’ persona that is carefully preserved by Apple. It will also have crap memories for him due to all the trouble between The Beatles themselves, running Apple, and losing a fortune daily.

Would anyone want to release a film which showed them in a bossy obnoxious light trying to motivate 3 mates who would rather be 1000 miles away picking their toenails and which they dont want to look back on ever?

Same goes for Ringo. He doesnt want it out either as it stirs up bad memories of a band playing shit and being miserable for much of the time. Sun King said Yoko wouldnt santion due to how it makes her look but it also has John looking stoned for a most of the 80 minutes which doesnt fit into the Saint John which she has carefully created since 1981.

Basically we are screwed and the only hope is that everyone involved has a sudden ‘what the hell’ moment and says ‘yes’ at the exact same time.

Let It Be will be re-released, according to the director. I don’t think Paul cares any more about how he looked in 1969 – water’s gone under the bridge in the years since. Plus they’ve got literally hours of unseen footage, so could put together an amazing director’s cut.

I don’t know about Carnival. I can see it being issued at some point, and I think everyone will be disappointed by how bad it is. The descriptions I’ve read don’t sound too encouraging. I think that’s why George vetoed it for Anthology – because it wouldn’t have sounded good on that album. As a standalone download, though, why not?

Oh, I have little doubt that CoL will be as underwhelming as earwitnesses claim – my hope is that if it has to be bad, at least let it be (no pun intended) truly UNLISTENABLY so, as opposed to merely boring. But I still think that everything the Beatles recorded at EMI in those days has intrinsic value.

That’s good news about “Let It Be ” if it’s true, Joe! Did you get that info from wogblog?

Maybe its already out there, there are tons of COL posts on youtube. It tempting to play ‘its a fake because…’ but that means listening to the pieces of unlistenable crap, tho here’s a starter for those who wishes to be tortured. Would be funny if COL was put out there and everyone believed it was a fake.

It’s weird – i’ve heard a couple of the fakes, and neither of ’em even bother to make it sound like the descriptions. (Totally ananchronisti modern bass guitar sound, no voices yelling “Barcelona!”, etc.)

(For clarification, I’m speaking of fakes I’ve heard in the past, not the ones MMM just provided the links for, some of which may be more convincing fakes afaik.)

The ones that amuse me most are when they incorporate elements of Revolution 9 into the mayhem.

What I’d like most is an album of ‘extended versions’:

– the entire 6-1/2-minute cut of “12-Bar Original”

– the entire 8-minute cut of “It’s All Too Much

– the entire 9-1/2-minute cut of “Flying

– the entire 27-minute cut of the third take of “Helter Skelter ” (or, at least, the entire 15-minute cut of take 2)

– the entire 4-1/2-minute cut of “Not Guilty

– the entire 8-1/2-minute cut of “Dig It

– the entire 6-minute cut of “You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)” (why they edited out 30 seconds from the stereo mix on Anthology 2 I’ll never know   ahdn_paul_01)

Also included as bonuses: “Carnival Of Light ” (however unlikely), the original version of “Flying ” with the ‘Dixieland’ coda, the true stereo mix of “I Am The Walrus ,” any less fragemented-sounding songs recorded during the Get Back /Let It Be sessions (“Madman,” “Watching Rainbows,” etc.), and “Now And Then ” (I heard somewhere Paul, George and Ringo also recorded another song they wrote on their own during the ‘Reunion’ sessions called “All for Love.”  Is there any truth to this?  If so, add that one to the list as well.)

None of those things will ever be released. If it wasn’t released on the Anthology’s, it won’t be released; there is no obligation for it to be released, and there’s no way they’ll ever approve another massive vaults release.

I personally believe one day we will see some studio album making of collection box multidisc set thing – at least one which is Pepper. Its such an historical album that there is a market in how it was put together. I dont believe it will span to all 12/13 albums tho.

Folks are still waiting for Capitol Albums Vol. 3!

You can forget CoL and anything which has not got some high marketable value (hardcore fans wanting to hear it wont matter). Putting out the 27 minute Helter Skelter wont interest Apple as again its to such a limited market, same goes for the 9 minute Flying -anyway thats on bootleg.

It wouldnt suprise me if that Fly On The Wall disc is all you ever get of the Twickenham Get Back sessions as it was viewed then as rehearsals and now as unlistenable miserable crap.

Actually having thought about it Apple might open up the vaults on a pay per download basis with everything blocked somehow by technology to stop duplicates getting made. We’re talking decades down the line tho when its commonplace by nearly every other band and everyones music collection is tied to their own individual cloud which only they can access.

I’d go for this.  Hell, I’d pay up to $50 for a digital download of “Carnival Of Light ” alone.  a-hard-days-night-paul-10  Still can’t believe simple stuff like the full-length versions of “It’s All Too Much ,” “Not Guilty ” and “You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)” didn’t make the cut for the Anthology albums.  blue-meanie  I’ve thought about the whole Complete [insert album name here] Sessions box sets concept in the past… though only the albums from Rubber Soul onward (the sessions for the Yellow Submarine songs could be included with the Magical Mystery Tour sessions — as well as the early ’68 sessions) would likely hold much interest (though I wouldn’t mind hearing their attempt at “Tip of My Tongue” and the early version of “Hold Me Tight ” from the Please Please Me sessions).  If The Beach Boys  successfully did it for both Pet Sounds and Smile, surely The Beatles’ landmark albums would be just as marketable.

Is Tip Of My Tongue still in the archives? Was it even recorded? The Hold Me Tight PPM sessions are long deleted or lost so little to no chance of hearing those.

Would agree about the box sets being from Rubber Soul up, Apple could even put out a best of selection either from each one or from them all, kind of what they did with Anthology Highlights on iTunes.

Apple will release something lovely, unexpected and very expensive to commemorate the 50th anniversary be it in 2013 (first album), 2014 (US invasion) or Pepper.

[Have just realised that the MMT DVD is being reissued pretty much 50 years to the day Love Me Do was released in the UK (5th October). All the talk of it being the same day as Johns 72nd birthday meant it never occured to me. I doubt its coincidence.]

In the future we’ll have holographic/virtual reality recreations of each recording session in real time, with the ability to switch between the control room and studio floor, to allow us a fly-on-the-wall view of history as it was made. That’s my dream, anyway. Anyone want to share it?
