Offline “The movement you need is on your shoulder”
– Hey Jude
McCartney put this line in as a placeholder and planned on taking it out until Lennon said he loved it. I think it says a lot for one line, especially considering the line in the last verse about carrying the world on your shoulders. I see it as a double-meaning. In a literal sense, it’s suggesting Jude to shrug by letting go. But deeper than it, it’s saying that despite there being lots of people in the world, at the end of the day, you’re the only one who can act for yourself and make a difference in your life. It’s your burden, it’s your movement you must make. “It’s the fool who plays it cool by making his world a little colder” is also a great line too, which sort of says the same thing.
