Offline We don’t know if The Fool On The Hill is standing or not. He is alone, but other than that, all we know is that he is keeping perfectly still.
When the guy in Norwegian Wood woke up and discovered he was alone, I doubt he was standing.
The character I am thinking of is really in a standing position and the word alone is in the lyric.

Offline I just thought about what SWR wrote. I know we all know what he meant, but for clarificafion, it isn’t the girl (she) who is leaving home who is standing at the top of the stairs. It is the wife/mother who is standing alone at the top of the stairs.

Thanks for the clarification. I’ve honestly never paid close enough attention to that narrative to know who exactly was standing at the top of the stair.

Offline Let’s make a list of lyrics where the Beatles (group and solo) sound like they may have “got religion” along the way. Idea inspired by Ahhh Mom when she heard Everybody Out There (There but for the grace of God go you and I). She wants me to be religious, and she thought she could convince me to be because she says Paul McCartney got religion along the way.
