I think the problem is that we have different definitions. I think that a simplified version of the main bassline is still basically the same.
But I’ve been wrong before, and I’ll be wrong again!

Regardless, Paul doesn’t play something similar to the main bassline on the album at all, he just plays A (x8) D (x8) C (x8) D (x8), hope you understand what I’m trying to say. As for it being because he hasn’t played it in a long time, it’s possible but I think option 1 is the most likely option especially considering that The Beatles Book Monthly says “Paul didn’t contribute to all songs on this album, John played bass on Back In The USSR and Helter Skelter ” and then follows in it’s article on the song “John plays bass here, George does too”. If I had to guess, the backing track had Paul on drums, John on bass, and George on rhythm guitar, with John’s original bass being wiped and replaced with a new bass part by him as well as a bass part by George but then again, if that were the case then why would he play bass onstage instead of piano or guitar.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

There is quite a lively discussion occurring on another site in regards to whether Paul will open with Back In The USSR when he hits the stage again on April 28th. Some fans say it would be wildly inappropriate (despite the shoutout to Ukraine), while others are betting he will with revised lyrics. A few suggestions were changing lucky to unlucky (You don’t know how unlucky you are boy) and good to sucks (Gee it sucks to be back home). Also one person had the idea he could play the song on a balalaika during the acoustic portion of the show. I’m kind of conflicted about the whole thing…It could be a special moment, especially if combined with some sort of fundraising.

It would be very hard to hit the right tone, I reckon. Probably better to avoid the song and give a verbal shoutout to Ukraine.

I’m shocked that YouTube hasn’t banned Back In The USSR and Neil Young and Bette Midler haven’t thrown fits about quitting Spotify over it.

The song is the song and has always been the song, regardless of what is happening now. It doesn’t need to be banned. If I were Paul I’d just play something else for the time being.

Looks like Paul sang it straight when he played in Kiev’s Independence Square in 2008. I think it would have a strong impact if he follows it up with Give Peace A Chance . (but I also see meaigs and Tim’s point)

Back In The USSR probably the greatest Album opener in Rock music.

Hey chrisredditch, welcome back! It’s been years!
Definitely one of the greatest openers, and the segue into “Prudence” is additionally one of my favourite between-song transitions ever, up there with “Friends”/”Celebration Day” (Led Zep) and “Superstition”/”Big Brother” ( Stevie Wonder)

1. Who is “him” in that sentence (I bolded the word)?
2. The Beatles performed Back in the U.S.S.R. in a concert…???

There’s a typo in Joe’s quote of a technician on this song.
For the mono mix everything came out OK, but the stereo mix took a long, long time and I was holding the pencil to keep the effects tape taught. I guess I must have been leaning back on it and started to stretch it, because the mono has this clear, clean lovely jet sound while the stereo is an abomination of a jet sound.
