Ringo is to be inducted into the ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’ in 2015 report Rolling Stone who carry an interview with Ringo, and to steal from Stella when Paul was inducted in 1999 “about fucking time”. What took them so long!?
He found out thru a phone call from Paul who will present him with the award; from the above link:
Ringo Starr first learned he was receiving the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Award for Musical Excellence when Paul McCartney called him up about two weeks ago. “He said, ‘Would you accept the award?'” Starr says. “I said, ‘Sure, man.’ He said he’d been talking to Dave Grohl and other people and they were stunned that I wasn’t in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and he needed something to do that night and he’s going to give me the award.”
This means that finally all four solo Beatles are in (John, 1994; Paul, 1999; George 2004) as are the group themselves (1988).
Ringo: “Finally, the four of us are in the rock and roll hall of fame even though we were the biggest pop group in the land.”

Call me a hater (which I’m not! I love Ringo! really!) but I really have to question whether he deserves to be there as a solo artist. Are they really saying that his solo achievements are up there with those of the other three?
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

I don’t think the test is whether or not he compares to the other three… because, who does?

“Ringo in the Hall of Fame” goes well with “Hope For The Future “
But really. Ringo is a super cool guy whose achievements as a Beatle far surpass his reputation. But does the post-Beatle Ringo deserve to be in the HOF while other deserving acts (see Jethro Tull) are not? Hmmmmm…..

I don’t think the fact that other deserving acts haven’t gotten in should preclude Ringo getting in. I’m pissed that Chic have become the Susan Lucci of the Hall of Fame nominations, but I’m still thrilled to see that Ringo is being inducted.

Actually I think Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is a joke (same with grammys). But people obsesses over it so much that makes it super-important but anyways I am super-dooper happy for Ringo, finally he’s getting his reward for musical services. Now only thing which is left to be inducted in Hall is Wings, after that Paul will be a 3 times inductee along with clapton.

Go Ringo!! I think he deserves his place there, and that it’s better he got in later then the others than never.
Now will any Beatles be entered three times like Clapton?
The only two eligible would be Paul with Wings and George with The Traveling Wilburys, correct?

I had a chance to read the Rolling Stone interview (and it’s so sweet that Paul spearheaded the effort to get him inducted). And I was thinking about a concrete reason why Ringo deserves to be inducted, and I think his enduring legacy more than anything is paving the way for drummers to carve out successful solo careers. It’s telling that Dave Grohl was just as stunned that he wasn’t part of the celebration.

See, parlance, I’d LOVE to see Chic in the HOF! (Or I would if I *cared* about the institution.) They absolutely deserve it because of their accomplishments…and I really don’t think Ringo does by himself. His main accomplishment was being the drummer in the greatest band of all time; and in that context, he’s already been inducted. Inducting him based on his solo work kinda devalues the solo inductions of John/Paul/George. Maybe you could make a case that they all deserve to be inducted solo because they were all former Beatles (and because, y’know, the Beatles were THE BEATLES); but if that were so, shouldn’t they all have gotten in at the same time in 1988?
Whatever, though. If Ringo’s happy about it, I’m happy for him.

We might have been typing our last responses at the same time, but as I say above, I don’t think Ringo’s only feat was being a Beatle.
And to add to that, I think that Ringo being the father of modern rock drumming deserves its own recognition anyway.

If its based entirely on music output (and i have no idea how the HoF works on nominating people and the criteria required to actually get in) should John and George be in there (again based entirely on the solo music catalogues)? Neither set the world alight with their body of work on a consistent basis and if anything John’s is pretty average when you get passed all the predetermined ‘wow its John, therefore it must be great’ views. I love a lot of what they did release but i’m not going to be blind and say both released success after success and left behind several classic albums each over a significant period of time.
[I think i’ve posted this before and someone did answer by posting the HoF ToC’s so apologies for repeating a question and forgetting the answer.]
I’m of the opinion Ringo should be in there so good on him. And to all those who question “why?” i reply with great respect

Yes – he had an amazing string of hits in the early 1970s (more successful than John) and has been a constant guest artist with numerous others as well as recording and touring with great success. He is at least as deserving as many of the other artists in there now.

Going by chart success alone ends unbalanced and many daft points can be made to highlight it all. Westlife had 14 UK number ones, 10 more than Queen, but no one would claim they are a greater band whose music will be regularly being played in 20 years times. Mr Blobby has had more #1 singles in the UK than Led Zeppelin.

Indeed – but many people run down Ringo’s achievements – chart success is just one example of the success he has had. I personally don’t give a fig who is or isn’t in this ‘Hall’, but Ringo’s career is as multi-faceted as many of the previous inductees so he deserves to be in there as much as anyone.
