"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been.. I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene.. Banjos! Banjos! All the time, I can't forget that tune.. and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

Paul sang happy birthday to Ringo last night in Ottawa (warning for those who don’t want to see concert spoilers – avoid clicking on the link).

Another link in honor of Ringo’s birthday – Ten Things You May Not Know About Ringo Starr. People here will probably know most, though I didn’t know he’d been contemplating a move to Houston before he joined the band.

Ringo is in the Hall of Fame as part of the Beatles. But not his solo career :/
True and is his solo output that much worse than Johns? However Ringo is in the hall of Fame – and I doubt he cares that much about either.

I like how you’re willing to admit that John’s solo work isn’t quite as awe-inspiring as people like to think.

I might get some backlash for this but anyways: I don’t believe Lennon’s solo career lives up to the hype that is generated around it. Quite a few people seem to think of John as “God ” and here comes the comment that I will get the most hate for; I think the reason why John is held on such a high podium is because of the way he died, if he hadn’t been shot and was still alive or died from natural causes I don’t think he would be thought of as highly as he is now. The only John albums I ever listen to regularly are Plastic Ono Band and Imagine and a couple of tracks off Double Fantasy but that’s about it.
George’s solo career was more impressive then John’s (IMO) but then again George did have more time to write material then John but how many of George’s songs do you hear being sung on television, how many tributes to George Harrison do you see, how many George songs do you hear on radio stations that are not Beatles-based. Now compare that to how many John songs you hear. John’s death by murder stays more in the public mind then George’s death by cancer…I think.

Spent Ringo’s birthday watching Yellow Submarine and listening to my ‘Ringo!’ playlist.
Hope it was a stellar day, Ritchie!!

Oh and BTW, I did stand up at noon and profess ‘peace and love!’

Poor Ringo can’t even have a birthday thread without John crowding in. ;->
I did the peace and love thing at Ringo’s star(r) on the Walk of Fame with a few others who showed up.

Last year on Ringo’s birthday, I prayed for peace and love with him at the Hard Rock Cafe on Nashville.
& Parlance, I agree. That’s the reason Ringo won’t do a book. He doesn’t think people care about him, they’d just want to know about John. Poor Ringo. I would read his biography.

Totally. I think he’s a wonderful storyteller. I love Postcards from the Boys . And I know I’ll go back to see his Grammy Museum exhibit.

The quote I keep reading from Ringo is that people are “only interested in 8 years (1962-70) of my life,” but I don’t think that’s true. I think true fans, like us, wanna know it all. I loved the bios of Paul and John and George that cover their entire lives…I want to read the same about Ringo!
