There’s only one guitar part in the song, played by George, as only 1 guitar is heard and when you watch them play it live, John never actually strums his guitar.

There is only one filmed performance of ‘Love Me Do ‘ available and they are miming to the record. It’s therefore not the greatest source for evidence as John could very easily not bother to mime the guitar playing.

Let’s cover Paul:

Bass Guitar:

Paul used his 1961 Hofner 500/1 on Please Please Me , With The Beatles , and associated songs.

Paul used his 1963 Hofner 500/1 on A Hard Day’s Night , Beatles For Sale (some say that George played bass on Rock And Roll Music , but since there’s 2 guitars in the song and the song was recorded in one take without overdubs, we know this isn’t true), Help ! (minus Yesterday and I’ve Just Seen A Face ), and associated songs.

For Rubber Soul , Paul used his 1964 Rickenbacker 4001S, except for Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown), What Goes On , and Run For Your Life , where he used his 1963 Hofner 500/1.

For Revolver , Paul used his 1964 Rickenbacker 4001S, except for Eleanor Rigby and Love You To , where there is no bass. Some say that George played bass on She Said, She Said, however, it’s safe to assume Paul recorded his bass before he left the session.

For Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Paul used his 1964 Rickenbacker 4001S, except for She’s Leaving Home and Within You Without You , where there is no bass.

For Magical Mystery Tour , Yellow Submarine , and associated songs, Paul used his 1964 Rickenbacker 4001S (now with a fiery finish), except for The Inner Light .

For The Beatles, Paul used his 1964 Rickenbacker 4001S (now sanded to bare wood) on Back In The USSR , Dear Prudence , Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da (it may sound like George, but trust me, it’s Paul, as George played rhythm guitar), The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill , Happiness Is A Warm Gun , Martha My Dear , I’m So Tired , Piggies , Don’t Pass Me By , Why Don’t We Do It In The Road, Birthday (although some sources say George, I believe it’s Paul), Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey, Sexy Sadie , Long, Long, Long , Revolution 1 , Savoy Truffle , Cry Baby Cry and Revolution 9 , along with Hey Jude (although people think it’s George, it can’t be because George plays lead guitar on the backing track) and Revolution , while choosing his 1966 Fender Jazz Bass for Glass Onion , While My Guitar Gently Weeps , and Yer Blues .

For Abbey Road , Paul used his 1964 Rickenbacker 4001S on Come Together , Something , Oh Darling, Octopus’s Garden , I Want You (She’s So Heavy), Here Comes The Sun , Because , Polythene Pam , She Came In Through The Bathroom Window , and The End , along with Old Brown Shoe , while choosing his 1966 Fender Jazz Bass for You Never Give Me Your Money , Sun King , and Mean Mr. Mustard, and using his 1961 Hofner 500/1 (now without pickguard) for The Ballad Of John And Yoko .

For Let It Be , Paul used his 1963 Hofner 500/1 (now without pickguard) on Dig A Pony , Dig It (?), I’ve Got A Feeling , One After 909 , and Get Back , along with Don’t Let Me Down , while picking his 1964 Rickenbacker 4001S for Across The Universe , I Me Mine , and Let It Be (album version), along with You Know My Name (Look Up The Number). Although some say Paul played bass on For You Blue , he actually played the bass part on a piano.

Guitar:

Paul played a 1962 Epiphone ES-230TD Casino on The Night Before , Another Girl , Ticket To Ride , Drive My Car , I’m Looking Through You , Taxman , Here, There, And Everywhere (possibly John), And Your Bird Can Sing , Got To Get You Into My Life , Tomorrow Never Knows , Paperback Writer , Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Flying , Strawberry Fields Forever (possibly George), Back In The USSR , Martha My Dear , Why Don’t We Do It In The Road, Honey Pie , Maxwell’s Silver Hammer , and The End , while going for his 1964 Fender Esquire for Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite, Good Morning Good Morning , Helter Skelter , and I Want You (She’s So Heavy).

For acoustics, Paul used a 1964 Epiphone FT-79 Texan on I’ve Just Seen A Face , Yesterday , and Michelle (?), while he picked his 1967 Martin D-28 for Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da , Wild Honey Pie , Blackbird , Rocky Raccoon , I Will , Mother Nature’s Son , Can You Take Me Back, Her Majesty , Two Of Us , and Maggie Mae .

Although some sources say otherwise, it is highly unlikely Paul played guitar on I’ll Follow The Sun , She’s A Woman , She Said, She Said, Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except For Me And Monkey, While My Guitar Gently Weeps , I’m Down , Hey Bulldog , and or Carry That Weight .

Maybe you should try posting more.

I was thinking about doing a poll in Google Forms where you vote what guitars The Beatles used per song, but I need at least 5 yes votes.

Why have a poll? Either they did or didn’t, to vote is illogical.

Because then I can always vote for which guitar I like best.

It’s not as easy to distinguish what type of guitar was used as you think, so different people come up with different answers. I want to do a poll so I can see everyone’s answers and place the winners up on this forum.

I’m not voting because polls are stupid, but I say yes, which means only 2 more yeses to go.

The winners might not be right tho which would make it pointless. Why bother displaying dates which might be complete nonsense.

Why not, it’s not like there’s an obvious answer to the question.

Since no one is willing to do the poll (sad actually, as I created part of it expecting you all to say yes), how about I take Joe’s instrumentation on his pages for each song and add what specific guitar was used.

Maybe you should try posting more.

You’d need to credit the Beatles Bible as the source.

Does anyone know whether John’s Rickenbacker and or George’s Tennessean were used on the Revolver album. I think John used his Rick on And Your Bird Can Sing , but I can’t be sure.
