I have been playing guitar for about a year now. I really enjoy it and I am going to continue, but I am also very interested in learning the bass.
In January I am going to rent one (along with an amp) for a month to see how I like it. If I do I would really like to buy a Hofner. Does anyone here own one? I can see that they are a little pricey, probably between $400 and $600 Canadian. I think it would totally be worth it.
"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been.. I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene.. Banjos! Banjos! All the time, I can't forget that tune.. and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

I play bass, it’s great, doesn’t get a lot of glory. (Except in the Beatles case) Don’t know about a Hofner, they are pretty expensive. I’m looking to try to learn guitar at some point. Hope you like bass!

Thanks, me too!
I hear that style is light and easy to play. I’m renting an Epiphone in the new year:
These are around $350 anyways, so another $150ish more to get a Hofner isn’t much difference. Can’t wait!

Never played one outright, but fumbling around with one in the guitar shops, I’m extremely offput by the light-weightness of it. I feel like I’m going to snap it in half as I hold it. I love the idea of the violin bass, but it astounds me that McCartney played this thing as long as he did. Obviously his was much better built, though I have to imagine that the basic features on a replica are the same.
