^^ Ah, yes. YouTube comments. Thank you for mentioning those. If I were younger, I might have thought about that source of information. I was too caught up in thinking about a focus-group conducted by a social science researcher.

That would be interesting. The Parents Television Counsel is the only thing I can think of and they generally only care how risque or violent a tv show is.   Maybe you should conduct a survey. Do you just want to do generalization of all their song covers or only The Beatles?

I’m so  deep into the revision process with a paper some colleagues and I are getting published, I don’t have time for another study.a-hard-days-night-ringo-14Perhaps I’ll toss the idea over to someone in our sociology department. I think it is a great idea for someone to pursue.

Paul, do you have a post-1980 song or two that you really wish John could hear you sing, other than the one you wrote to him?

Have there been any moments that you felt stuck writing a song and thought, “John could help me out on this if he were here”?

I think he already said no to that one – I have seen him discuss it a few times :)

Good one about songs he wishes John could have heard. I’d like to hear the answer to that, too.

As for your second question, he has been asked if he misses having John as an editor, and this is what he said:

“Are you kidding? Of course I bloody miss it. I’m sitting in the room with John, him with me. Believe me, we’re both pretty good editors. We were young turks. We were smartasses. And we did some amazing things. I would love him to be here now, saying, ‘Don’t bloody do that!’ – or, more wonderfully, ‘That’s great!’ So yeah, I really had the greatest writing partner.”

Paul, I’ve read that your mum ran away from home as a young teenager. Is that why you’ve written several songs with a “runaway” theme?

Did you get told off a lot as a kid for being fidgety, biting your nails, etc.?

In an interview about the Ram reissue, you said that “Uncle Albert /Admiral Halsey ” grew out of something you termed “Irish drinking theory.” What the hell does that mean?

Do you favor a particular brand of watercolors?

^^ Thanks for the input acmac!

Paul, several of us have dreamed up a concert tour for you where you would play in smaller venues and perform only songs from your solo albums. Would you like some help putting together the set list for the concerts?

You would. OK. Your fans here on the Beatles Bible forum would be glad to assist you. I’ll go first. The others can chime when they get a chance.

From Chaos and Creation: English Tea, Follow Me, and This Never Happened Before
From Electric Arguments: Sing the Changes, Life Long Passion, and Is This Love?
From Driving Rain : Your Way, Heather, and Your Loving Flame
From Off The Ground : Off The Ground , Winedark Open Sea, C’mon People
From Flowers In The Dirt : My Brave Face, This One, Put It There
From Press To Play : Press, Stranglehold, Move Over Busker
From Tug Of War : Tug Of War , Take It Away, Wanderlust
From Ram : Smile Away , Monkberry Moon Delight , The Back Seat Of My Car
From Flaming Pie : Calico Skies, Beautiful Night, The Songs We Were Singing
From McCartney: Junk (not the singalong version), Lovely Linda, Teddy Boy (I can’t ask for Kreen-Akroe because I couldn’t be in public when you do that middle “breathing” part)

I’m sure Abe, Rusty, Wix, and Brian would back you up.

What is the most thoughtful/precious/sentimental material gift you have ever been given? Who gave it to you? Do you still have it? Do you know where it is? How often do you see it?

Paul, were you just kidding around when you told Dave Letterman you didn’t like his show?  If you were serious, why don’t you like it, and why do you like Jay Leno better…?

Were you thinking about:

“It’s getting better all the time
I used to get mad at my school
(No I can’t complain)
The teachers that taught me weren’t cool
(No I can’t complain)
You’re holding me down
(Oww)
Turning me round
(Ohh)
Filling me up with your rules
(Ooo)”

When you wrote these lines to “Feet in the Clouds:

“The teacher said I had my head in the clouds
They directed, I suspected, disconnected, had it my way.”

I have a few;

1. Hey Paul, can I call you Paul? Hey Paul, first question… what is your favourite Beatles…. wait for it…. album! You thought I was going to say song didn’t you?
2. What do you think of today’s music that is manufactured and made by technology etc?

3. Do you remember what it feels like to be non-famous?

4. Did you get bullied at school?
5. Did anybody ever tell you that you weren’t good enough to become famous(apart from Decca)?

6. Which vulture was which in the movie The Jungle Book, cause I seriously can’t tell that much

7. What’s your advice on a fellow musician to hitting it big?

Favourite band: The Beatles
Favourite song: Yesterday
Favourite album: Rubber Soul

LOL! Good one! I could see that being one of his private wishes.

Perhaps Nancy humors him sometimes and calls him that. I don’t see anyone in his band calling him that.

Do you think you would call him that if you ever encountered him on the street or some other random place? I think I would. It would slip out naturally.
