Indeed. I’d be chucking ’em down, and I’m not even seventy-three.
Perhaps they say that to give you a false impression… he’s actually drinking something else…
Editing in favour of double-posting: I liked the ‘guitar strings used’ detail… 5,700! But one must keep in mind that six strings at a time are used. Gotta keep ’em fresh, I suppose.

300 crew…
Would be interesting to see how much this all costs.
Has anyone written a book on what it takes to set up a concert these days?

Sometimes 12 strings at once. That adds up 😉 But if you see how many different guitars Paul uses in one show, that number doesn’t surprise me. They’re most likely changed after each show.
Re: the water. It’s a silly thing to do, isn’t it? not drink, I mean. I’m sure he empties at least one 0.5l bottle of water between the main show and the encores, but that’s still more than 90 minutes without drinking. Insane…

If you like seek-a-word puzzles, here’s Paul’s puzzle for 2015.
A lot of the entries are for places he played in 2015.

True, true. I did think of 12-strings, but I was trying to keep it simple– and also giving an opening for another BBer to say hey ye missed something and feel all . Just doing y’all a favour, right, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it
I’m now trying to imagine the luxury of changing my strings after just one show… and on a dozen different guitars... I amn’t exactly succeeding…

I don’t think I even go 90 minutes without taking a sip normally, let alone while belting out Maybe I’m Amazed and Live And Let Die and We Can Work It Out .
Hey– perhaps he had just one glass of water which he took sips out of throughout the tour, and still hadn’t finished it by the end, so it counted as zero because they couldn’t be bothered to go into decimals.

Y’know…. I’m pretty good at changing guitar strings. It’s the only thing I do well on a guitar, but let’s forget I ever mentioned that. I wonder what my chances would be if I applied for a job as Paul’s personal guitar string changer… I mean, it would be inhumane to let his current tech do all that stuff, right?

Now it’s over, I am desperately hoping for Paul to tour again. I have a job now so I could actually afford decent tickets to try and get as close as possible to the stage.
I am soooooo lucky to have seen him twice! And both times for free, other than having to drive hours to go see him.

I’ve seen Paul three ties and every time I’ve seen him it was basically the same shows. Maybe he played a couple different songs at each show, but even his banter and jokes were consistent throughout. What kind of spoilers can there be to a Paul McCartney concert? No entiendo.

If I could drive I’d totally drive for hours to see him live. The whole feeling there was not like other concerts I’ve been to.

unknown There is indeed a formula to the McCartney concerts based on the audience being a mix of 1st time viewers and repeat ‘customers’
He’ll play a few songs from his most recent album (as few as 2 depending on the album), the ‘core 6’ (Hey Jude , Let It Be , Live And Let Die , Band On The Run , Jet , Yesterday [sorry if I’m forgetting 1 or 2]), 15 or so from the 20 A-list songs (I Saw Her Standing There , blackbird, Eleanor Rigby , Penny Lane , Lady Madonna ,….), a couple of Wings songs (1985, Junior’s Farm…), random Beatle songs (And I Love Her ), and then …. on each tour he pulls out a Beatle song he’s never played before (e.g. The Night Before , For No One ,..).
If you see him every time he comes around (yours truly), you live for that one song and you put up with the rest – and you watch first timers jump with glee the moment he starts playing a classic.
Yes on any given tour, the banter stays the same. I guess when you find something that works…

This is true of most Stadium/Arena tours now by whatever artist you care to choose.
The logistics of computer controlled lighting effects and what’s being shown on any screens they may have showing prepared visuals means that most modern tours are completely scripted and difficult to vary. While the technology allows for great looking shows, it hinders spontaneity. What variation there is between shows is often built in long before, with any variations being built into shows long before a tour has started.
These big shows do not allow for much spontaneity or variation.
Even Dylan doesn’t do it so much now, and he used to renown for never doing the same show twice.
I can remember when I first saw him in 1990 at the Hammersmith Odeon. He played six nights and I got tickets for every night, and every night was different. He played 20 songs most nights, apart from one night he did 19, and the last night 24. A total of 123 song performances. Only 24 songs were played on more than one night, and only 2 of those were played every night. There were 44 songs that were only played once. He performed 68 different songs over the 6 nights. He was obviously deciding what he was doing day by day, and often choosing what was next on stage.
He doesn’t do that now.
As great as technology is, as much spectacle and amazement it can provide, it does also limit performers to doing one of maybe three or four variations of a scripted show, and deciding which version of the script they’re going to do before they walk on stage.

During the height of Beatlemania, didn’t they just play pretty much the same songs at each concert on a tour?

Assuming that wasn’t a rhetorical question, yes. Well, more like toward the end of Beatlemania when it was starting to be a drag.

Yes, @Ahhh Girl, but you have to remember they were only playing thirty minute sets, which pretty much dictates the content. If you’ve got thirty minutes, you’re going to play the hits, plus a song for George and Ringo. Dylan at the same time was playing around about 90 minute sets which allowed him more room.

Yes but they did that as they were playing for 30 minutes and felt they had to play their big singles, 1 or 2 tracks to promote the new/latest album and a 2 or 3 Rock and Roll oldies. Brian reduced the Beatles playing time from hours and got it all organised, before then they had a rough list but were prone to do as they felt when they felt as they had such a huge pool to draw from.
There would be nothing to stop Paul from getting away from the stadium tours and do shows at smaller venues and sets that were far more varied. Wouldn’t be too difficult to get his band familiar with more obscure numbers; by all accounts they’d like to do more Wings and solo Paul material, Paul being the more hesitant.
