Paul McCartney  revealed that he recently tried writing a song about the killings of unarmed black men in Ferguson and Staten Island in an interview with The Associated Press. While the former Beatle admitted his initial attempts proved fruitless, he hasn’t given up on the song.

I mean, I don’t know what Paul believes he can accomplish with a guitar he can’t say with a press statement or interview. He isn’t Bruce Springsteen – and writing a (most likely not as good) version of Bruce’s American Skin (41 Shots) isn’t going to do it. If he wants to, fine. But I don’t know why he can’t use the soapbox that is the fact he’s Paul McCartney to say what he wants to say.

(PS – if you don’t know the song or know the story behind it, read about it.)

He doesn’t need to be compared to Springsteen or any other. He wrote Blackbird .

I’m not comparing him and Springsteen in terms of talent – just in terms of being to write a song that captures the national mood after an episode of the magnitude of Ferguson and Staten Island.

If it is Paul’s internal way of dealing with situations, then I want him to give musical expression to his inner thoughts and feelings. It makes the musical world richer for it…à la Blackbird as parlance mentioned.

Write away, Sir Paul. Write away.

From The Mirror:

Top chef Jamie Oliver thinks he has found the perfect recipe for chart success after making sweet music with Ed Sheeran and Sir Paul McCartney .

The TV chef, 39, has co-written a song with Ed, 24, to be released in May to promote Food Revolution Day, aimed at educating children about food.

Now this is going to be one tasty treat.

More at the link.

Rolling Stone article on the David Lynch tribute in LA last night:

Before the music, though, the sold-out crowd of approximately 1,600 heard about Transcendental Meditation. The show opened with a promotional video featuring prisoners, vets and celebrities such as Jerry Seinfeld and Paul McCartney explaining how such restful contemplation can improve one’s worldview and harness untapped potential. The video’s sincere, inspirational tone flipped the temperament of Lynch’s movies, which have a wizardly ability to capture the banality of life and then tweak it just slightly so that ordinary reality suddenly feels funny, unsettling, dangerous.

Sir Paul McCartney warns government over foxhunting law

A piece from the article:

Sir Paul McCartney has warned the Government it will lose the support of the people of Britain if fox hunting is reintroduced.

His comments come after ministers put forward changes to the Hunting Act to bring England and Wales in to line with Scotland on using dogs to flush out foxes to be shot.

Traditional fox hunting with dogs is illegal across Britain, but in England and Wales, only two dogs can be used to flush out a fox so that a farmer or landowner can shoot it, while in Scotland an unlimited number of dogs can be used.

What is traditional fox hunting if it isn’t using a pack of dogs to chase the fox?? I’m confused.

@Ahhh Girl, since the fox hunting ban was introduced, hunts have continued to go out, but the hounds chase down a scent laid by cross country runners – so they still get the ride, but not the kill at the end. Well, mostly, sometimes the cross country runner is ripped apart by the dogs when he or she is caught. It’s usually accidental though.

But if people are still allowed to use two dogs in Wales and England, and an unlimited number of dogs in Scotland, how is that a ban?

Maybe I am reading the article wrong????

As far as i would guess they banned chasing/killing the foxes, the riding part is fine hence the scent. I presume flushing the fox out means that the dogs are kept on leads/under control whilst doing it and there is no chasing over the countryside for the kill.

Personally i’m against the hunting of foxes and dont get why rich snobs feel the need to do so on a Sunday afternoon as if its their god given right to inflict cruelty on an animal (sorry its a requirement and not a jolly up). But no doubt they’ll come back with their snobbish words and manners, talk down to me as I’m a peasant (and not just because i dont give them presents) and then bugger off back to their rich abodes to get bathed by their servants because they have had to mingle with a commoner.

Yes, all that is a generalistion and im deeply deeply sorry for not going further.a-hard-days-night-paul-11

Have you not watched that scene in Mary Poppins?

Oh, now I get it. Now the dogs have to be on leashes…and it is only supposed to be done to rid a farm of a “pest” fox.

The change they’re suggesting, basically, is that packs of hounds be allowed to chase foxes all over the countryside again, but that the foxes must be shot rather than ripped apart by the hounds when finally caught, as was the former practise.
