I don’t think little Phil actually dislikes Paul as much as he’s made it sound, but it is an excellent way to get him back in the spotlight to promote his new tour.
It clearly worked too… you can’t blame him really.

I don’t know anyone who would go to a concert just because that person hates Paul McCartney .

Offline You’d think that, but it stills gets him in the public eye when just saying he has a new tour probably wouldn’t get in the newspapers.
That’s what I think anyway, as the articles usually have a little footnote at the end saying “Oh, by the way, Phil Collins is performing at the Royal Albert Hall in November too”.

Offline I can’t say I know much about Phil Collins as a person. I wouldn’t know if he were just using this incident to get the attention of the press for the purpose of self-promotion. However, going back to the root of the issue, Paul’s words struck me as nothing more than banter when I read them. It can be viewed as somewhat unusual or even comical for celebrities to ask for autographs from other celebrities, so I assumed he was poking fun at Mr. Collins for doing that. I could be wrong, though, of course. Either way, I don’t think it needed to be as big an issue as it was made out to be, you know?
