‘Mullet Madness!: The Haircut That’s Business Up Front and a Party in the Back’ by Alan Henderson (so important a book it has to be mentioned twice on this very forum) has a passage on the possible origins of Paul naming the band “Wings”:
If true imagine what may have been if the mullet hadn’t existed!
All hail the mullet

Shouldn’t we just say Wings instead of Paul McCartney & Wings? Isn’t that really what Paul wanted? But then I remember this thread.
We don’t say Paul McCartney and The Beatles.
Just some wondering out loud on my part. I’ll pipe down now.

Although I will add that I’ve always loved “Uncle Albert /Admiral Halsey “, and a lot of people hate it.
Very underrated song on a very underrated Ram LP! Love it.
Some more underrated and somewhat unknown songs are “I Lie Around”, “Country Dreamer”, “C Moon” and “Hi Hi Hi ”.
A song that is very rare and different, but quite listenable would be “Oh Woman Oh Why”. Kind of strange, but cool! Macca sings it like he sings Monkberry Moon Delight !

Did Wings become Paul’s version of, or be inspired by, John’s ‘Plastic Ono Band’ concept?
I’ve always envisioned Wings as being Paul wanted a fixed band; he hired members but for whatever reason they left so he hired others yet the core concept remained of a fixed band with Paul, Linda and Denny at it’s core.
However reading ‘Lennon and McCartney, Together Alone: A Critical Discography of the Solo Work’, in the entry for ‘Junior’s Farm; is a press statement from MPL released in 1975 reading
“Wings members are free to pursue their own musical careers. This will enable them to develop working relations free from contractual ties. In future Wings will have a fluid concept, which will be adapted to suit current and future projects”.

That quote sounds like Ringo’s All-Starr Band.

This is mostly related, but I think i’m the only person so far who actively ships Jimmy McCulloch x Denny Laine. At the time I realized that I ship them, I found absolute zilch when searching for any sign of an existing pairing of them. As the un(official?) founder of the ship, I shall call it McLaine. Anybody else with this problem? (pls, people who know Wings lore like the back of their hand, don’t barrage me with facts about it being impossible, I’m sure McLennon shippers are as sick of it as I am. Also I simply don’t care, and will ship it harder)

I’m not sure what “shipping” means; but regardless, “McLaine” might be confused with the great actress of yesteryear, Shirley MacLaine. I like “Laine-Loch” better.

I was listening to Jazz Street the other day, which was supposed to be from the double album Red Rose Speedway . I SO wish it was a double, instead of a single album. So many great songs left out. Do ya think we’ll ever get Cold Cuts released, with all those unreleased gems finally making an appearance in that one? I bet that’s like asking if/when Carnival Of Light will be released.
Anyway, back to the song, love everything about it. What a great jam! And the bass is absolutely thumping here! Ahhhh, I need him to release this and all the other tracks. If Red Rose Speedway ever gets remastered, then maybe…………….
And just to add, I absolutely adore Wings, with all of its sappy songs, ballads, and hardcore rockers. They make the 70s so much better.

Wings were a very underrated and talented band. They probably just seemed to be enjoying themselves a little too much to be taken seriously during the 70’s….especially by a disgruntled younger generation.

The only problem I have with this is that it sounds like you ship Paul McCartney with Denny Laine.
Too many Macs in that band, they should’ve just called it Paul Mac’s Mac Band instead of McCartney and Wings

Well, it depends on what you think is “younger generation”. The young people in that video look like late 20s maybe even some of them 30-something, so if it was say 1975 that would make them the generation that was just beginning their teen years all the way up to their late teens, early 20s when the Beatles were still hot (easily up to 1969). What I was expecting to see in the video was kids about, say 16 to 18.

Ahhh well, I don’t know if I can find a video of that, haha. But I would assume the 16 to 18 age group would also have a strong liking for Wings. More so than the people in their late 20s, perhaps? I say that because if they were around 16 to 18 in 1975, they would be around 10/11-years-old in 1969. These people wouldn’t have necessarily grown up with the Beatles (I’m talking about the craziness back in 1964) like the 20-somethings had, and may have had a different perception about them and, as a result, gave Wings a better chance to prove themselves than the Beatle die-hards would.
Which is why I really enjoyed the video above because it showed, to me, that Wings resonated with the late 20/early 30-somethings crowd as well.

Sorry to say I’m not actually a huge Beatles or Wings fan but of course I do recognize them as greats and listen now and again.
I just figured out something pretty unusual and thought I’d share it with the Wings/McCartney/Beatles fans. This seems to be the best forum I can find but it also seems pretty dead at the moment. I wonder if anyone can suggest a busier forum?
The trivia is this: what is written in Japanese on the guitarist’s t-shirt in the McCartney version of Coming Up ? We only get to see the middle “letter” or two of a couple words but I’ve figured it out. I wonder if anyone else has wondered about this, or indeed, solved it.
