We have the answer. There’s a new video for “Call Me Back Again”:

Watch the new video for the classic Wings song ‘Call Me Back Again’.

This remastered version of the track will be released on Monday 3rd November on the ‘Venus And Mars ‘ reissue. Also released on the same day is the remastered ‘At The Speed Of Sound’.

I like the video. Good use of animation and the old family pictures add a lot, plus the song itself is really good.

The number on the telephone, 270575, is the release date of Venus And Mars ; makes me wonder if the other numbers in the video are of special reference.

well it does say this on mccartney webpage:

Eagle-eyed fans may notice and wonder about the number on the phone in the video. It has now been disconnected but had you called GAR 6922 a few years back you would have reached the McCartney residence, it being the family’s home number when Paul was growing up.

Her Majesty: Paul McCartney’s Dundee message to the Queen Mother

A cheeky message from Paul McCartney to the Queen Mother has been discovered in the Caird Hall autograph book.

McCartney visited the Caird Hall with his post-Beatles band Wings for the final date of their 1975 UK tour.

The group arrived at the venue just a few weeks after the Queen Mother , the then Chancellor of Dundee University, had signed the book.

The bassist drew a face with a crown and the message “and love from another subject,” with an arrow pointing towards the signature of Her Royal Highness

The comments came to light after it emerged that Anton du Beke and Judy Murray, the mother of tennis star Andy, will be dancing to the Wings classic Mull Of Kintyre as part of the Anton and Erin That’s Entertainment show at the Caird Hall on February 19.

Susan Gillan, music development section leader, remembered Wings had visited back in 1975 and checked the Caird Hall autograph book to find Paul McCartney ’s entry and discovered the tongue-in-cheek drawing and comment.

The same page in the book has a message from Linda McCartney, whose birthday was the day after Wings’ Caird Hall gig, saying “Keep it up Dundee, you take the cake!”

Susan said “This was a reference to the fact it was Linda’s birthday when they visited and Paul had made sure there was plenty Dundee cake on hand to celebrate!”

The host of famous signatures doesn’t stop there though: comedian and actor Billy Connolly has also penned his name on the same page.

The original autograph book has been digitised to allow the public to browse online.

‘Letting Go’ and ‘Rock Show’ are not simply remasters but are vastly different to their officially released counterparts. ‘Rock Show’ is just over 1 1/2 minutes longer, ‘Letting Go’ a minute longer, and both are basic takes lacking a number of overdubs that were added at a later stage.

Me neither.

Where is this from? My version of the album I believe has Mull Of Kintyre instead.

It’s the incredibly rare Macca/Dana mash-up. From Dana’s song title (winner of the Eurovison song contest) they took the words “All”, “Kinds” and “Everything”. From Paul’s song title they took the word “of”. It is a great listen.

Dana: All kinds of…
Macca: Mull Of Kintyre
Dana: Remind me of you
Macca: Rolling in from the sea

My ears almost fell off when I first heard it!!!

Paul McCartney : Wings music is better than I thought
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/mus…..les-music/

Sir Paul McCartney says he believes his music with Wings and solo work has stood the test of time, despite comparisons with his Beatles career.

He told BBC Radio 2’s Dermot O’Leary that he’s pleased he didn’t listen to critics because he “might have given up”.

McCartney, who is re-mastering his albums Tug Of War and Pipes Of Peace , said: “Wings were getting a bad rap at that time [the Seventies] because it was post-Beatles, and anything you did or I did that was solo was stood up against The Beatles. So you tend to go along with that, and I went along with a bit of that thinking ‘well it’s never gonna be that good but I’ll do it because I love doing it’.”

“And then you listen to it back and think ‘this is better than I thought it was’. So that’s great to do, to really listen back and think ‘I’m glad I did that, glad I kept going’, because you know if I listened to the critics I might have given up.”

I, for one, am so glad he kept going!

No question that Paul could write a great single when he put his mind to it, my chief difficulty with Wings were the albums except for Band On The Run . Wingspan really underlines that point for me, there were always hidden gems on the albums but I guess Macca is just not the sort of songwriter who is “safe”, and didn’t get consistency guidance when he might have used it (if he even welcomed it). I’m not criticizing Paul for this: it took me a long time as a fan to understand that as a songwriter, his way was to write and do the best with what he had at the time, and move on. From the point of regarding albums as art, it really never worked for everyone anyway, and it was better not to hold everyone up to a standard no one could define.

Even though Macca made some great albums in “Ram , Band On The Run , Red Rose Speedway , Venus And Mars & Wings At The Speed Of Sound “, he also had “a lot of great unreleased songs and singles” that weren’t on any LPs, that put most other bands to shame! The man was a musical genius.

Unfortunately after 1977, I have a hard time listening to any more than a few songs from each of his later releases, starting with “Back To The Egg “. paul-mccartney

That was a terrible album. Unfortunately it was one of the few ones we had lying around for my school radio club so I heard much more of it than I liked. When my sister gave me McCartney II for my birthday, it went into heavy rotation!!
