The first song recorded for Paul McCartney ‘s début solo album, The Lovely Linda was a brief tribute to his wife lasting less than a minute.

Years ago (back in ancient times when there were actual record stores and phone booths and you had to go back home to make a phone call) I purchased the official songbook for Paul’s first solo album, “McCartney”. Even though I’ve had this songbook for this long, I only realized this week that it has little typewritten notes throughout, written by Paul himself, commenting on some of the songs.
For the song “Lovely Linda”, Paul writes:
“Written in Scotland, the song is a trailer to the full song which will be recorded in the future.”
I don’t recall any second, subsequent recording of “Lovely Linda” after the first solo album came out. Did Paul ever re-record the song in a more fleshed-out way (as implied by that note)?

Interesting find.
Not that I’m aware of. I did always wonder why the song was so short.

Maybe he’ll do it for the 50th anniversary of the song or something. He never said how far in the future.

I was going to ask this in the ‘Miscellaneous Questions About Paul’ thread a while back, but now this thread has been made, I’ll Put It There here.
I am curious to know whether Linda ever met up with her first husband again after their divorce?
EDIT: Woops, mistaken this thread as a ‘questions about Linda thread’ rather than about the song. Perhaps that is an idea?

50th anniversary? We’ll probably get that in 2078 after Paul puts out the 13th release in the Archive series and the 100th anniversary of ‘Band On The Run ‘, the only solo album of his Paul seems to give a s**t about celebrating.

I can imagine Paul at age 150 still performing…

@AppleScruffJunior I’m inclined to say yes, since Heather had a very close relationship with him for a while.

Sorry, I tagged the wrong Forumpudlian. My comment was meant for SPB
No problemo, I was racking my brain for the past day wondering where I commented something about Linda.

I know this is an old discussion, but that quote from McCartney comes from the original press release for the album, which led to the BEATLES SPLIT!!! news stories in 1970.
When the Studer 4 track was installed at home, this was the first song I recorded, to test the machine. On the first track was vocal and guitar, second – another acoustic guitar – then overdubbed hand slaps on a book, and finally bass. Written in Scotland, the song is a trailer to the full song which will be recorded in the future

I do wish he had fleshed it out. I’ve toyed with the idea of doing so myself at some point. It’s a lovely scrap of ditty and always makes me smile when I listen to McCartney.
Edit: 17700th post, that looks kind of cool
