Is that a parrot noise he's making? This is a silly song, and that's very ok. But it's also wonderfully minimal, with the synth arppegiator holding the bulk of the tune and that staccato bass line only sustaining in the choruses, so nothing gets in the way of the driving rhythm. He should do more of it.

Expert TextpertI'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.
I know this song tends to divide fans, but I really, really like it. It's just a great pop record, throwaway without being bland. I like a lot of the McCartney II album though I think some of the songs aren't particularly memorable, but this is maddeningly catchy.

From Paul's monthly 'You Gave Me The Answer'
David asks:
“How did you conceive of and create that great, rapid arpeggiated keyboard loop on ‘Temporary Secretary ’? Were you intentionally trying to create a certain ‘mood / atmosphere’ for the song?”
We managed to grab Paul in between his hectic touring schedule to ask him. He replied:
“Thanks for your question, David. The truth is I was messing around with a device known as a sequencer, which - as its title implies - allows you to create a sequence of notes, which will then repeat. Whilst experimenting I came up with the notes which form the introduction of ‘Temporary Secretary ’ and it seemed to me to be a good basis for the song.”

It's one of my favorite albums of his. I don't understand why people don't like it.
Agreed. I like the album a lot. Waterfalls is probably my least favourite tune - I'd venture a guess John was referencing to that when he said Paul sounded depressed on McCartney II and if he was, I can see how he could think that. Oh, and Mr. H Atom sucks pretty bad too, I think. But there really are some fantastic ditties on it, Temporary Secretary being one of them. I also love All You Horse Riders. It's just the right amount of crazy.

Definitely. It's one of his better solo albums, IMHO. Now, Pipes Of Peace .... that's a different matter (for a different topic)...

Funny how different tastes we have...In my opinion, that is not only of the best songs of McCartney II , but one of the best ones of his entire career...

I just re-crashed onto this strange island in the sea of Macca and am highly amused by it... and furthermore, I just crashed into this on Macca's Instagram:
yes, that person really did type out the entire lyrics to Temporary Secretary in a comment on an Insta post about the Abbey Road crossing -- scroll to see for yourself:

I'm sure they just copy pasted it, but still pretty hilarious.

'Maddening' is a good word for this song. It's such a bizarrely great song. I always compare it to Kraftwerk ('Pocket Calculator' comes to mind) but the frantic pace of it brings the Ramones to mind too.
What a strange genius Paul is
