All these years, I thought the countdown that comes near the end of this song was Paul, but a You Tube that isolated all the voices indicates quite clearly it was Linda.
Also, Linda shouts out four times — “a-ONE!… a-TWO!…a-THREE!…a-FOUR!” — but all these years I thought only the first time it was following numerical order, but the subsequent times it was comically jumbling up the order.

P.S.: An indication that this isolated track video is NOT the final cut is at about 3:02 into it, right after Paul says “Say bye-bye” and everybody answers “BYE BYE” but simultaneous with the first “BYE” you can hear Linda say something — which you CANNOT hear on the final track. So it seems that this isolated track video represents a rehearsal that wasn’t the absolute final version. Now I’m wondering if Linda really did say that 1-2-3-4 countdown after all…

From first hearing I’ve never cared for this. Maybe because its a traveling song (got in my car and off I went going here and here… – who cares?).
Always preferred ‘Country Dreamer’.

This is one of those songs I think, “How can anyone not like this…?” There are many songs I can understand it’s a difference of opinion & taste, but this isn’t one of them. The energy, the arrangement, and the deployment of the instruments are superb, and the “wall of sound” multi-tracking of vocals infuses it all the more.
Also, I’m not really a fan of rock music per se, but there are exceptions which do something to bridge me over not just to grudgingly like it, but to really enjoy it.

Thanks meanmistermustard, I had already read your post (which is why I posted mine).
Ah. I’ve always found the track to be an annoying bore with a dreadful sounding Paul vocal and horrific lyrics. There is a lot going on but none of it interesting enough to warrant ever being bothered by it.
I’ve always found ‘Country Dreamer’ to be far superior, have adored that song for almost 30 years.

I do think “Country Dreamer” is the better side of the 45 as well, but I do like this song. However, I don’t care for it breaking up the flow of Band On The Run on the US Version. It’s nice as a standalone song, or a bonus track.
