Paul is pulling a Jimmy Carter, micromanaging everything, stretching yourself so thin that you end up not achieving much. It didn’t go well for Carter, it isn’t looking good for Macca.

If he wants to hire me, I’ll have a bash at it.

For anyone who missed these as I just remembered they were a thing.

When releasing the Archive collections Paul would make a one or two tracks available (sometimes exclusives not included on the sets) to download for free from his website. Not all are here but there are ten still up (you may be asked to sign in with your email address but I think it’s just so they can email you Paul stuff like his monthly newsletter, I could be wrong).

I put my email in and have not received any emails yet unless they have all gone into my promo email folder on Gmail which is entirely possible.

You’re right, @William Shears Campbell. I forget one or two other tracks were offered to download for free from other sites.

Have checked my iTunes and  ‘Junior’s Farm (Ernie Winfrey mix) was from ‘www.nashvillemusicpros.com’. Pretty sure the Ernie Winfrey mix of ‘Sally G’ was a free download as well but if it was I’m not sure where from; it could have come from a bootleg.

There has been no official confirmation about any of the above or any further details such as other formats for release.

Personally, I really am not that fussed having lost all interest in the series, plus I would guess that to get all the music we will have to pay a fortune and I do not care about some replica newspapers and photos to justify forking out £150 for 3 and a half CDs of music.

Finally this one actually looks like its worth getting, for the home recordings alone.

Apparently it’s around £230 for the deluxe all included set. Absolutely no chance I will be paying that.

Wonder if there will be a smaller set available for those without legendary rock star wealth and income.

There’s a new Dylan album on the way, much more affordable.

I’m hoping there may be a digital release without the booklets and photos just containing the outtakes. The last few released have been lacking in volume and quality, however Flowers In The Dirt made many of the outtakes digitally accessible. I won’t buy if the price remains absurd.

Well, Paul’s “home studio”, where much of Flaming Pie  was recorded, is Hog Hill Mill aka The Mill, @Duke_of_Kirkcaldy, so I’d guess it’s a radio interview done there at the time discussing his new album.

EDIT: It’s described in the official announcement as “Paul’s hour-long tour of his studio”.

I love Flaming Pie as much as the next guy, but one thing that has bothered me with this pressure campaign is the lack of consistency with the order of release.  I remember hearing it was the order of commercial success, but it seems pretty random to me.  I’d like to see chronology holes filled before going to newer albums and creating more holes.  I know Paul is touchy about some of his less successful albums and works and tries to pretend that they didn’t exist, but I think that’s stupid.  People like his music, even the stuff he doesn’t like to revisit.

The Flowers In The Dirt Archive was a joke.  The digital-only disc was so stupid.  Paul wants to push digital music, so he makes one of the discs only available through digital download, however, in order to access the download, you need to buy physical media….the irony…  One of the good things these archives usually provide is making some B sides and other non album tracks from the album’s era available on digital platforms like Spotify, but since the digital CD was the one that contained the B sides, that sliver of goodness did not exist.  The digital-only disc to promote digital music is not available on digital platforms but can only be accessed by acquiring physical media.paul-mccartney-facepalm_gif

Oh, and the crap about how the one extra CD in the box would cost too much is bullcarp.  Paul is stinkin rich and could easily afford it.  And if the release was really not gonna sell enough to cover the cost of the one additional CD, then maybe, I don’t know, make a release that is quality so people want to spend their hard-earned money on it, instead of turning one CD full digital thus making the release even more crappy than it already was and thus dropping the profits even further due to people not wanting to spend large amounts of money on physical media only to have a good amount of the media in not physical format.

Probably one of my favorite Paul albums of all time is my least favorite Archive release.  It’s just not right.

Good Lord. Everybody look at this beautiful box set that I WILL NOT be getting.

16E45241-17D3-4586-AE5E-AA9860F5DEF4.pngImage Enlarger

600$ now that’s just absurd I can’t see any possible way of justifying this bullshit

D8837EF0-AACD-42F8-9FD6-4F7B4EE50DB9.pngImage Enlarger

Even this is beyond justification. What pissed me off the most is Paul will likely include a larger package of digital tracks on streaming sites like Spotify and Apple Music, leaving us who want to own the music no choice but to pay up the ass or settle for this two CD release, (which may be what I get since it has all of the home recordings)

I do hope Paul makes the full tracklist available to get outside of premium sites or his stupid box set.

I love you Paul but you are testing my loyalty!!! paul-mccartney

This actually looks like possibly the best archive yet.  I have to admit that after the failure that was FitD, the RRS and WL archives were better than the previous releases, and this one looks like an even greater improvement.  This could mean the archive project may have a chance yet.

While the bonus discs don’t appear to be filled there are a number of them meaning there is content that justifies buying the box.  The vinyl and cd in the same box reminds me of the deluxe box of Electric Arguments, which is one I’d like to add to my collection. Although I don’t know why the album is on 2 discs when the original vinyl release was on one disc.  Also, the fact that a guitar pick was included made me laugh, as I remember a funny post where @meanmistermustard was mocking the archive releases and listed as limited edition guitar pick as an insert in the mockery release.

[Edit, I tracked down the post]

meanmistermustard said
[As posted in ‘Beatles News‘ so if you read it there don’t bother here.]

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Just when you thought all your Christmas pennies had been used up, news from a long thought extinct series reappears. Reportedly coming at Christmas, it’s ‘Wild Life’ and ‘Red Rose Speedway‘ in the ‘McCartney Archive’. Yes, it’s back. The never-ending series that six-months after everyone has given up giving a crap yawns back into life leaving all with a shrug of excitement. A series that when compared to other Beatles-related reissues looks so meagre in its contents it makes Scrooge seem generous with his 0.000001% discount on a bag of coal.

You thought four cd’s, a book and a DVD with plenty of outtakes was the standard of excitement, well, get ready for 16 outtakes over two discs, a couple of live tracks from a concert spread out over 8 other CD’s, a luxury book that you’ll look at twice then leave forever on a shelf, some replica pieces of paper that you never cared about, unseen photos that if they stayed that way no one would lose out and a couple of pieces of crappy plastic shaped into a guitar pick/paperclip/roadside side or whatever else can be chucked in to bulk up the price.

Image result for yippee gifImage Enlarger

Also despite my complaints about the archive releases I still have bought them and plan to buy the ones I don’t have because…. well collecting, completionism, and a need for Beatles releases on my shelf regardless of quality.

What is a positive is that 45 of the 46 tracks (ignoring the interview disc) are listed on the iTunes page as being available for pre-order for £17.99. For some unknown reason, one track is missing and that is ‘The Ballad Of The Skeletons’. If this stays the same I am happy paying the money and will do. If it changes and I have to pay £200 for the music, Paul can go and, well, you can imagine.

I don’t get the idea of having a box that is ridiculously expensive and is what fans have to buy to get all the music. The argument is that it will push some to purchase it and therefore meet the production costs however it will also force a lot of fans to not buy any of it. Few are going to make the jump from being willing or able to pay £20 – £30 for the music to simply jump to £200+. Those who want the book, paperwork, photographs, tumble dryer freshener sheet, will most likely buy it anyway.

I never bothered with either ‘Wild Life ‘ or ‘Red Rose Speedway ‘ as the bonus tracks on the double cd’s were mostly pointless filler, a good few lasting less than a minute and I’m not paying for the boxes. All of which is just plain daft as it’s money I would be willing to spend but Paul isn’t getting. Yet I have good faith that the 50th ‘JL/POB’ and ‘ATMP ‘ (unconfirmed but very likely) will be far more sensibly priced and contain far better material (I ignore the 50th ‘LIB ‘ as it’s the Beatles and I know fine well that I’ll be buying it even if it is priced insanely high (tho I do have my limit); I am only captive to the Beatles not the solo works).
