I have no idea what “half-speed master” means or if it’s therefore better or not.
I think half-speed mastering is supposed to be better. I believe when it comes to mastering, it’s the slower the better. It seems like a lame 50th-anniversary release. He should just take this anniversary as an opportunity to repent of his mistakes with the archive releases and start a reissue campaign of 50th-anniversary boxes less like the archives and more like the Beatles 50th-anniversary releases.
Also, I think you meant for this to be in the McCartney thread, not the Pure McCartney thread…

What we got on the deluxe archive is clearly the best of what’s in the vault. I’m always playing ‘Woman Kind’.

To quote Beatles
[George:] Um, possibly.
[Alan:] Oh, go on, say, “yes.”
[George:] Yes, thank you.

Maybe this was the best that was in the vault, but I feel like that isn’t completely true. I know there is a full version of suicide somewhere it was cool to have the one that was snipped of the end of Hot As Sun / Glasses, but I want the other one too. Maybe I’m just being greedy though.

I wasn’t being serious, the bonus tracks were a joke on the deluxe and there has to be better in the vaults even if just alternate vocals. I had no idea ‘Woman Kind’ existed having forgotten about it until I checked wiki three minutes before that post was submitted.

I thought that was a bit weird especially coming from you. Looking at the archives McCartney seems to be the weakest of all of them. McCartney II is a close second though. I’m sure those 2 albums have some cool unreleased material too.

‘McCartney II ‘ gave us the unreleased double album tracks and a few odds and ends. I was delighted as you could also buy all the tracks in hi-res online as a download so no need for the super-expensive box with an exclusive replica knitting pattern for the jumper Paul wore in the ‘Waterfalls’ promo. Those days are gone.
‘McCartney’ was an utter joke content-wise; a few crap outtakes (yeah we got the full ‘Suicide’ but it’s garbage) and some live random performances from wherever.

Granted McCartney II had 2 bonus discs. I guess the archive has more than I remember.
McCartney, on the other hand, has one bonus disc with less material than the album itself, which is a common theme in the Archives.

Big fan of how stripped down and loose this is. Not ending it on Maybe I’m Amazed is baffling to me though.

Hadn’t thought about that before. It does seem like an odd choice to end it with Kreen-Akrore. Nothing wrong with that song in general but kind of Run Of The Mill as far as Pauls music goes.

Eh, who knows what goes on in Paul’s mind…Kreen-Akrore is so weird that maybe Paul had a special fondness for it

I love the photo of Paul playing the snare drum into a toilet with a towel over it. He really went above and beyond for the production even if It doesn’t come across as a ‘high gloss album’. Coming out with the power in Maybe I’m Amazed was unmatched by a home studio until Boston’s debut.

I believe you mean Mary; Stella wasn’t born yet.
Yes, I do, thank you. It is very easy for me to get Stella and Mary mixed up– especially as non-descript (but absolutely adorable!) babies plus I’m terrible with who was born when. Sorry

Did you know that the songs “Junk” and “Teddy Boy ” were written in india and were planned to The White Album ?

Not entirely correct, @yaireismailov. While Junk was written in India, and was featured among the May 1968 Esher demos (as included on Anthology 3 and the White Album 50th anniversary release, which helped them look at what they had in preparation for the WA, it never progressed to a studio recording. Teddy Boy was started in India, but wasn’t completed until after his return to the UK (hence its absence from the Esher demos), with its earliest recordings occurring during the January 1969 Get Back sessions, and it being included on Glynn Johns’ early versions of the album that went on to become Let It Be .
