The Home EP is the first of a series.

https://www.wxhc.com/paul-mcca…..iii-album/

Paul Mccartney is celebrating the release of his forthcoming studio album, McCartney III , by issuing a series of digital-only EPs featuring previously available songs that boast themes that tie in with the tunes on his new record.

New merch alert: t-shirts, facemasks, baseball caps, dice bags, and a “Secret demo edition McCartney III “, plus bundles of all of the above, in white, yellow, blue and red (in the UK you save a tenner when buying a bundle).

The demo edition CDs include a “secret bonus demo track”, and comes in four colour variants.

Edit: according to the Steve Hoffman forumites each of the CDs has a different demo. That’s pretty exploitative, so I’m out. I’m sure they’ll be compiled on a deluxe edition next year.

Each color CD contains a unique secret bonus demo track – collect them all to complete the series

It looks like the US store (https://shop.paulmccartney.com/) has more options than the UK one (https://shopuk.paulmccartney.com/), including proper box sets rather than bundles.

It also, confusingly, has two different CD version for EACH colour variant. One is the “Secret Demo Edition Cover CD” ($7.33), and the other is the “Deluxe Edition Cover CD” ($14.33).

I’ve read speculation that the cheaper version just contains the mystery demo for each colo(u)r, but I suspect that both contain the full album, and that the deluxe just has more elaborate packaging. Just a hunch though.

Here are the box sets that US people have. Again, there’s a dizzying array of options: a box containing demo edition and dice; demo edition and hat; demo edition and t-shirt; and demo edition and mask. Repeat for each of the four colours.

In the UK we have a bundle containing all of the above, but as yet no boxes. You can also buy each of the items individually, which you don’t seem to be able to do in the US (why?)

(NB there are sixteen box sets, so imagine the above pics in different colours)

I thought it was a bit stupid a few years with three or four different variations of a release but it’s ridiculous for ‘Mc³’.

Replying to myself, I know, but the clear answer to “why?” is twofold: 1. McCartney really likes making money, and 2. He’s going all-in to get to number one based on first-week sales. Quite clever really – if you want a t-shirt or dice you have to buy the CD too.

At least, I assume that’s how it works. Here in the UK there used to be rules against giving away bonus items with singles or albums – you’d get disqualified from the charts. If the US is more lax it would explain why the CD is getting boxed up 16 times (effectively, buy a t-shirt/whatever and get a free CD), whereas in the UK there’s only one bundle per colour.

The sentence “Each color CD contains a unique secret bonus demo track ” is ambiguous; does each colour CD contain a unique secret bonus track exclusive to that colour or is it the same song just a difference colour or CD? Not that I’m buying 23 different versions of the same damn album.

According to ‘The Daily Beatle‘, in total it’s 4 different bonus tracks so for all four you need to buy all four different colour CDs.

Or you can wait wait a few months for the Craps box set where you get all four demos plus another three tracks, or wait another two months after that for the full Casino set where you all the tracks so far, two additional tracks exclusive to the box, a ‘Mc³’ speedo, a facsimile of a radiator, a mystery piece of vegan fruit, a code to a video of watching Paul playing Patience on his phone during Rockdown, a replica of a key Paul once used, a blank page out of one of the notepads used by Paul when writing the tracks, and the first two ingredients to Paul’s secret chocolate recipe (collect all 7 versions of the Casino box to get the full recipe).

At this point of Paul’s releases they will officially given up with sensible links to the merchandise and are just throwing in any old crap that comes to mind.

They other three have asked McCartney to push his solo effort back, so as not to coincide with the release of the 50th Anniversary edition of Let it Be.

That joked would’ve worked if LIB had been released this year.

For anyone keeping count, there is another colour, orange, to add to the paint chart of variations available (the paint chart is itself exclusively available with the New Zealand pressing and you also get a free sheet of sandpaper (also available in five different colours)).*

The Daily Beatle also reports that two tracks are making the rounds (‘Find My Way’ and ‘Winter Bird’/’When Winter Comes’) due to being aired on an episode of ‘Breakfast and the Beatles, the reason for the release delay, and that there were 25 tracks for the album and so more may become available in future releases.

As you know, the release date has been knocked back a week, and “McCartney Legacy” explained why, courtesy of inside information from Capitol:

Long story short, Capitol is unable to manufacture the (many different variations of) vinyl on time, so they have knocked back the release date by a week. Capitol, we are told, did not expect a McCartney album this year, and have been scrambling to fulfill Paul’s wish that the album finishes the sequence 70-80-20.
Vinyl sales will make up a big portion of physical sales in the UK and USA giving Paul the best possible chance of a No.1 album, hence he wants all physical media to land on the same day. (Paul faces stiff competition from the Arctic Monkeys and The White Stripes.)
We were also told to expect a big deluxe edition in 2021, plus other marketing gimmicks in the coming weeks. We were told months ago that Paul prepared 25 tracks old and new, so it’s possible we’ll get more in the super deluxe. (Some tracks date from before 2020, ‘When Winter Comes’ for example was recorded in the early to mid-90s.)

*The amount of variations and bundles available are just so ridiculous that I have given up taking it seriously.

No, it isn’t for the money. It’s to try to get the record to #1. He wants the buzz of people listening to his music. “Everybody else is busy doing better than me” (Alligator) is what he can’t bear to be true.

Then do it for free, ask for people to donate if they like what they hear, reduce the price, include more music for their cash (unique codes to all 25 tracks) or whatever the rules allow. I’m sure people will come up with justifiable arguments for why none of that is possible so maybe Paul has to accept he’s not getting a #1 as releasing 47 different variations is a complete joke.

Yeah it’s to get the hardcore collectors to buy more to increase the sales to get Paul to Number 1 (and increase his bank account slightly of course).

I likely won’t buy a copy of it for a long time if ever so Paul isn’t going getting much money from me (he’s got enough from me already).
