OK haha, I read your comment before seeing the video link and assumed it was premiering AGAIN! And thought “Good lord, don’t tell me he’s re-releasing the damn thing! Can’t he just accept that everybody hates it and move on? Even meanmistermustard is hoping that Paul delays the remastered soundtrack until 2043 or so!” :)

vonbontee

LOL, what a PR disaster that would be.

If Paul had re-released it, parlance would have x-posted it to the “news” thread.

;-D Along with choice commentary.

I’d shut up if Paul reissued Driving Rain if it meant the Archive collection got a bleedin’ move on. At this rate John’s clone’s clone will have to be given the job of overseeing it as everyone else involved will be long gone.

Shame the camera’s didnt go in the theatre as a) we might have seen if the audience were bored senseless and trying to maintain the live or actually liked it, and b) whether or not that included Paul (considering its not been available for years he must be aware its utter guff).

Someone posted this at maccaboard:

At the London premier when (in the film) his manager says ‘We’ve found the tapes’, Paul (in the audience) shouted out ‘thank gawd for that’. Laughing

Even Paul was fed up with it all by then.

Haha, I’d never heard that story before. Wonder if he had a horrible sinking feeling of what a bad movie it was at the premiere… or if he knew before then and couldn’t stop the train.

I would still like to see this on DVD / Bluray – can’t take much effort to encode something and slap it in a box.

I’m more than happy to watch this trainwreck every once and a while for free on YouTube…no need for a DVD. The WORST scene is the Ballroom Dancing sequence…it’s so bad, I literally cringe and squirm in my seat when I watch it. A damn shame, too, as the original song is one of my favorites not only from Tug Of War but from all of Paul’s career.

I feel that MPL, Apple and the others do such a good job making us wait for so long that we are so giddy with excitement. Knowing that it is such wonderful music, acting and storyline means i am more than happy to pay waaaaay over the odds for such things. There is nothing I look more forward to than paying £22 for the deluxe Broad Street film (you get the whole movie in this one – i know, amazing, aren’t we so blessed?) in my official Beatles uninflatable chair that cost me the bargain price of £73.99.

Anyway to get it in the box you have to get someone to pick it up or press a button and that’s a very difficult job. I mean it’s hard just to know who to ask to get to do it; do you ask you’re assistant, secretary, understudy, the teasmaid, the guy down the street you get you’re coffee from every morning? That therefore means a meeting and with the other executives away on their holidays. all at different times, you can understand why it takes so long.

SPOILER ALERT (for those who haven’t seen the movie)

I got this DVD for Christmas (it is very cheap, less than 10 dollars), and we watched it over the holiday.  I was prepared for the worst, and I have to admit about halfway through I got sleepy.  It is like an extended music video with bits of plot in between, and there is no real tension or conflict.  It also has that pointless, fluffy 1980’s thing going on.  Looking back on the 1980’s now this decade in general seems less offensive than when I lived through it, and I find it more charming, and so I found the movie to be charming.  Yes, it is a long and winding road (with saxophone) of sorts, and I found myself asking “Why was this made?” but I will probably watch it again.  I think where the movie began to fall apart was in the embarrassing segment with the silver space people and the black robot dancer.  At that point I was like, “What?”  And then it became obvious that it was logically impossible for Paul to do so many costume changes and play in so many different sets in one afternoon…but then, hey!  It was all a daydream.

Was looking into No More Lonely Nights as the album version is different to the single (tho only with pointless dialogue and sound effects so proved unnecessary). What i did come across was a track called Goodnight Princess which had gotten overlooked. Yet another Paul song that is fab, i love that old style music so loving this.

If anyone knows of any others that Paul has done (i have the Country Hams material as found as bonus tracks on Speed of Sound) please let me know.

LOL, buzzed, obnoxious Paul! I love Linda’s hair. And how she’s all “Nope! Not interested!” Hahaha!

I was hoping this was the red carpet interview where Paul’s asked about George and he’s like, “Yeah well, George has the good sense to stay home instead of doing daft stuff like this!” LOL. I’m gonna try to find that clip. Don’t remember if it was from Broadstreet or something else. Definitely ’80s, though.

Oh, Broadstreet. Oh, Paul. What tragic brew of hubris, grief, boredom, and pot fueled this particularly disgraceful midlife crisis?

It was actually my first ever CD by a Beatle – together or solo.  Can’t recall why now – but I know I seem to like it a LOT more than you :)

Wouldn’t be difficult. I’d be more than satisfied if the sessions had resulted in one 12″ single consisiting of

A-side: No More Lonely Nights (Ballad)

B-side: Goodnight Princess, No More Lonely Nights (Playout Version)

Relistened to this a couple of days ago and my over-riding thought to every track on the album is why? It reminds me of those horrible compilations that feature new recordings of classic songs by one or more members of the original band, either that or an artist who’s made the album as some kind of tribute to Paul’s work but fails miserably.

As said before the re-recordings are utterly pointless and far inferior to the originals (Here, There & Everywhere does feature a new subtle orchestral part but which adds nothing to it) and of the new tracks only NMLN is of any real quality. No Values and Not Such A Bad Boy are pure hackwork with lazy lyrics, half-hearted vocals and very average production, Eleanor’s Dream could have been something with more work but ends up going nowhere slowly via a long convoluted (is that the right word?) detour, and Goodnight Princess is a nice instrumental track in the same musical vein as Honey Pie  and You Gave Me The Answer but not worth shelling out for the album.

It is interesting  that the one Wings tracks Paul goes back to and modernises is Silly Love Songs which was a huge a-hard-days-night-paul-11 to his critics who were having a go at him after My Love saying his music was too soppy (Band On The Run can be heard in the film but its the Wings recording).

And going back to NMLN, on the album the ballad is sandwiched between movie dialogue and sound effects whilst the playout version is longer but not in a good way as it feels its been stretched out to fill in time rather than offer anything to the mix included as the single b-side. If you want NMLN (and it is such a good song with a cracking Dave Gilmour solo at the end of the ballad version and some excellent singing by Paul on both) get Wingspan which includes both the single versions and a whole load of songs you will listen to (better to have a good song twice than a crap one at all).

Overall its best to avoid this. I will be from now on.
