Egypt Station is the 17th solo album by Paul McCartney, and the follow-up to 2013’s New.

The album was announced on 18 June 2018, McCartney’s 76th birthday, following a series of cryptic messages on McCartney’s social media accounts.

There’s a page on the album Egypt Station here, which will be updated as more information comes available.

Why split this from the discussion about the build-up? That didn’t happen with the New thread, which contains all the build-up discussion.

Various reasons. It helps to have egypt-station in the url, as it’s good for SEO. However, changing the title and urls of existing threads isn’t a great idea, again for SEO reasons.

It’s also so this thread is focused on information about the album as it arrives, and thoughts after its release, rather than speculation. In months and years to come, new visitors will find the information they want, rather than having to go through three pages of conjecture (“Is it going to be McCartney III ?” etc). Now that we have a title and artwork, and more info to follow, there’s going to be plenty to discuss, hence a new thread.

You’re welcome to carry on posting in the other one if you want. Speculation could continue there until we have firm information, and it can also be used for thoughts about any other future McCartney albums. Think of this as putting a stake in the ground for when we have proper news and info about Egypt Station.

Another example of your slow destruction of this forum. This is my last post in this thread. Even after the album is released I’ll put my comments on it anywhere but here.

I don’t apologise for expressing my view that it is a disgrace to split the discussion about one album into two threads, and you never indicated to people who put effort into the previous thread that they were just wasting because you were just going to turn it into a cul-de-sac.

I’ll know better next time.

I think that’s a little much, @Ron Nasty. Joe’s decision seems perfectly reasonable to me, now that he’s explained it.

Can we pin the first post in this thread and then merge the posts from the other thread into this one? If so, we could delete this post and posts 2-5. That’s up to you, @Joe, whatever you think is best.

If the other thread is merged then it defeats one of the reasons for creating this thread.

Can we not let this thread get waylaid by discussions of what should be posted in this thread?

I think the new song is called ‘Come On To Me’, according to the information posted regarding the Philharmonic setlist:

This was posted in the Paul Paintings thread, but after a friend mentioned to me that there’s a town called Egypt Station in Mississippi, I did a quick search and found an article that mentioned Paul’s painting of the same name. If you have his book, it’s on p. 84, and dated 1988.

One could call this thread here “Egypt Station II” and the other one just “Egypt Station” or “Egypt Station I”.

At any rate, I don’t see the problem with multiple threads about the same general topic.  What’s an “SEO”? (You kiddies with your acronyms…)

A google search brings it up as

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the online visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine’s unpaid results—often referred to as “natural”, “organic”, or “earned” results.

The town in Mississippi is Egypt, not Egypt Station.

A battle in the War Between the States was fought there near the train station which no longer exists: http://www.djournal.com/chicka…..b4b4b.html

The Battle of Egypt was fought in December 1864 and was sparked by Grierson’s Union Cavalry Raiders racing out of Memphis with the goal of cutting the GM&O railroad. They were intercepted by a Confederate force sent north on the railroad at Egypt.

There is a natural gas compressor station named Egypt just a few minutes drive outside of the town of Egypt. Are we touting the use of natural gas, Paul?

Didn’t Paul discuss his gas supply in one of his fascinating website Q&A’s or am I going mad?
