What a life he’s had. He’s seen and done so much, and still going. Love you Paul. paul-mccartney-thumb_gif

Hopefully, Paul will still be here in many years to come. I can’t wait to see him in December.

I’m a guitarist who just learned how to play bass, I want a hofner as my first bass guitar, but couldn’t afford one, the epiphone viola bass look and sound quite close to me, anyone who own both and does the epiphone sound anything like paul’s hofner?

@MattWatchingWheels, you are not alone in dreading the utter pain and sadness you are going to experience when Paul departs from this life. He has brought jubulance, hope, and comfort to the masses, and the masses will mourn. I will be in that throng if I’m around to witness an Earthly existence that doesn’t include him breathing the same air we breathe.

I’m dreading seeing the Fourm thread for the topic pop up that fateful day.

I recall seeing some awards show in the early 2000s where Paul was speaking to the audience.  Linda had died just a couple of years prior (1998).  He mentioned her, and referred to her as a “friend”.  What struck me was how utterly un-sad his expression and mannerism were — only pure love & serenity.  My sense was that he was so close to her, he knew she would want him to acknowledge her this way, not in some weepy way.  I kind of think he’d like us to do the same when he leaves us.  (I just broke my own rule — getting teary eyed here…)

He’s virtually given us his own funeral instructions in The End of the End – “no need to be sad.”

@Ahhh Girl — I’m wondering if you can identify a McCartney song from his later years, some time in the last couple of decades. All I can describe is it’s in 5/4 time I think, it’s a kind of quiet song, and Paul sings almost like he’s murmuring softly, as if he’s singing to a child or a baby. Does that sound familiar?

I don’t know about th 5/4 part, but these might fit the other criteria.

English Tea
Jenny Wren
Little Willow
Calico Skies

If not one of these, I’ll look for more.

Thanks @Ahhh Girl, none of those are the one.  Another detail I failed to mention is that the song is very quiet and doesn’t really sound like an ordinary pop song like these do — no acoustic guitar, etc.  It had maybe electronic keyboard and one or two other instruments — but very minimalist.  Also, it almost sounds like Paul isn’t singing ordinary words but is softly murmuring, with a tremulous high tone (resembling how he sounds on Calico Skies). Later on he does sing words, and I vaguely remember I realized, “Hey, maybe he’s singing a kind of lullaby to a child or infant…?”  I hope that helps…

The Fireman LP has a few songs that fit your description @Sea Belt. Good to see you around. I still remember some of our writing discussions…

I actually thought of that, @sigh butterfly, but I thought those songs might be a little too out there. Maybe one will be the one Sea Belt is looking for.

Thanks sigh butterfly & Ahhh Girl — I listened to all the Fireman tracks, but no luck (there are 3 songs though that I kind of like and will re-listen in the near future)

Hey Sea Belt, we’ll figure it out. I made a pact with into-the-sky-with-diamonds to really listen to every Paul album within the next 5 years. I have heard all his work through the millennium and still have a year to go for the rest. paul-mccartney-thumb_gif So…It Won’t Be Long yeah (yeah), yeah (yeah), yeah (yeah)

Growing Up Falling Down – is in 3/4

Looking At Her

Road

Appreciate

– all in 4/4 but have minimalistic production and a high quiet melody. Havent found something to fit the description perfectly yet but did a nice listen through of NEW because I figured that was the best place to start looking.

"The pump don't work cause the vandals took the handles!"

-Bob Dylan, Subterranean Homesick Blues

"We could ride and surf together while our love would grow"

-Brian Wilson, Surfer Girl

Thanks for trying, @sir walter raleigh, but regretfully I must say that those are not the song I’m thinking of.

One thing I may not have mentioned or didn’t make clear is that the song as I recall doesn’t really have any kind of normal drum line, and it may not even have drums at all.
