I thought this thread might work because it was called “Lovely Linda McCartney: 15 Years Ago Today”, which I thought could be adapted to something similar to mmm’s suggestion. Only the “15 Years Ago Today” needed replacing.“The Lovely Linda , Veggie Cook of the House: An Appreciation Thread”.
Some idiot would come on arguing over being a vegetarian, totally missing the point of the thread.

I’m not a veggie, but I’ve had Linda’s pies and burgers before and they’re nice. I’d go as far to say I enjoy the latter more over actual hamburger meat.
But yes, finally one big place to appreciate this wonderful woman, all her talents and the love and inspiration she provided over the years for our Macca.

Naw, he loved Linda. Putting her down wouldn’t get me on his good side…which is where I’d like to be.

I’ve been thinking about Linda’s vocals. I *love* them, partly for some of the things she got a lot of flack for. Someone mentioned up-thread how punk she sounds, and I agree. I’d love to know if she was a big influence (conscious or not) on changes in expectations for women’s voices. Do you know of anyone who cited her as an influence?

I particularly enjoy Linda’s vocals on the Ram album.

I hadn’t seen this video in over 20 years. The Concert for Linda was a benefit tribute to Linda McCartney. It was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 10 April 1999. Lots of highlights, particularly Paul’s courage to participate at all. ~details in spoiler~
The Concert for Linda was a benefit tribute to Linda McCartney, wife of Paul McCartney . It was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 10 April 1999. Linda McCartney died after a long battle with cancer nearly a year earlier, when she was 56. They were married for 29 years.
The event was organized by two of their friends, Chrissie Hynde and Carla Lane. Comedian Eddie Izzard hosted the concert, with proceeds going to various animal rights charities. Hynde and Linda had worked together supporting various animal rights groups, including PETA. Tickets to the show, with 5,000 people attending, sold out within an hour after going on sale. Besides Paul McCartney ‘s unannounced performance, the show featured more than a dozen artists singing their own versions of Beatles’ material. Among the other groups performing were George Michael, The Pretenders, Elvis Costello, Tom Jones, Sinead O’Connor, Des’ree, Heather Small, guitarist Johnny Marr, Neil Finn, Marianne Faithfull and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Faithfull, who wanted to appear, said “I didn’t know Linda well, but she made my friend very happy, and that’s the main thing.”
McCartney was not expected to perform, as he had not done any shows since his wife died. However, he attended the event with his four children. After he took to the stage to thank the audience, at the urging of Chrissie Hynde, he sang one of his and Linda’s favorite 1950s songs, Ricky Nelson’s “Lonesome Town.”[8] He was backed by members of the Pretenders, along with Costello. The song was Paul’s first recorded song since Linda died.
He followed that with his 1963 hit, “All My Loving ,” originally performed by The Beatles. Most of the night’s performers joined him on stage to provide the chorus. Costello said that for this particular event, “there was something incredibly poignant” about the song’s opening lyrics: Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you, Tomorrow I’ll miss you, Remember I’ll always be true.
After those songs, Hynde rushed over and gave McCartney an emotional embrace. Everyone then joined in for the closing song, “Let It Be .”

I was alive and fully conscious & functioning in 1999, but I didn’t know this had taken place! — and I only learned about it 5 minutes ago! There seems to be one glaring musician missing, if that roster is complete.

James McCartney posted this message on X (formerly Twitter) on 17 April 2024, which is 26 years to the day since his mother died.
Mum was beautiful, lovely, peaceful, joyous and so sweet. I wish I could see her. And how do I? By being the best version I can be of myself. Where are you? Heaven? I’m with you. Xxx
