If you had one shot at having Paul McCartney sing you one of his songs…any one you choose…which one would you request? Would your request be different if he were singing it just to you alone in a studio or if he were singing it to you on a stage at one of his concerts before a packed out stadium? So, yes, you can give 2 answers if needed, one for in a studio and one for at a concert. If your answer changes in a few weeks or months and this awesome opportunity hasn’t presented itself to you already, you can update your choice(s).
In either setting, I’m requesting “English Tea”.

I’d like to be there if he played it for you at a concert. I’d like to see your smile.

Interesting question.
Neil Young sang a song for me and a mate in Sydney a few months ago. I had never seen him live in spite of being a fan since 1970 or so, and bought tickets when he and the Horse announced their tour down here. He had a pretty stable setlist just prior to getting here, but there was a thread on one of the fansites about which song we would like to hear if we had the chance to request one from him.
So, long story short, I posted that I would love to hear “Prisoners of Rock and Roll” in Sydney, someone else replied they would love that too. Lo and behold the first song in the encore Neil states “This one is especially for you” and he and the band launched into a (very) ragged version of the song they had not played live in years. I was completely floored – while it is known that some of his staff post on that site (Thrasher’s Wheat) I had never expected to hear the song at the concert.
So – you never know. Hmm, Paul, can you pop around for that English Tea and regale us with either “Wanderlust” or “This One” – I can’t quite decide which – maybe both – and I’ll throw in an extra scone

Spectacular story !
You picked out two excellent songs.
“What a pleasure it would be” if he performed one of our songs.

I’d actually want Paul to sing me a cover — “Reminiscing” by Little River Band. I’ve always thought that sounded like a perfect vehicle for his voice. As for the harmony parts, since it’s my fantasy, I’d also invite in Art Garfunkel and Emmylou Harris to sing along…

Nice song – and I agree, it would be interesting to see Paul give it a run, as long as he follows up with “Playing to Win”

Ok, ok….I’ll be corny here. Not based on it being the “best written” song…I’d pick “And I Love Her “. Being a fan-girl at the moment…OMG, could you imagine? Those gorgeous eyes looking at you whilst singing those words??! *swoons*

I couldn’t pick one of those kinds of songs because I would go into attack mode after the first 30 seconds.

I typed out my post, and then thought better of it as everyone else was giving really well thought out and intelligent replies, and this is the song I said.
Wouldn’t it be lovely….

Ahhhhhhhhh! I might have to give into the peer-pressure of you two and get him to do that song for me too…but only in the studio setting. Hot flash.

Have you ever heard Ray Charles’ version of “Yesterday “? I hate to say this, but I almost like it better than Paul’s. It’s very different of course; Paul goes for that monotone bleak sound to his voice to convey the sadness; Ray Charles as usual is more bluesy.

Just checked it out there
It sounds amazing I still don’t like it as much as the original, though, but I can see why people would
Yeah, I agree about them sounding different
Both good though
