Yeah, but it was composed in 1962. He wasn't the greatest bass player in the world at that point. He was just Paul.
The Beach Boys stole a whole riff and song from Chuck Berry for “Surfin USA”!
And Got sued for it.

There's nothing wrong with using a great bass part for an entirely new song. Haven't you ever heard the expression “Bad artists copy, great artists steal”? I've known “…Standing There” for 30+ years, “I'm Talking About You” for well over 20. And yet the songs are so dissimilar that I didn't even notice that they had the same bassline until I read Paul's remarks somewhere (possibly here) a couple of years ago.
“Drive My Car ” was inspired by Otis Redding's “Respect”, and that certainly doesn't take away the greatness of either song.

I really like the bass line in Dear Prudence . I didn't realize how good of a bass line it was until I heard the song on the radio. Only adds how amazing the song is.

The two radio stations in NY that I listen to tend to play more album songs than singles. Once I heard Rocky Raccoon and Martha My Dear on the radio.
Well, these stations are the Classic Rock and Oldies stations who designate certain times to the Beatles. They are cool to do so.

Back in the early '90s, CHUM-AM in Toronto advertised an upcoming “Beatle Weekend” during which they'd play “every” Beatles track in alphabetical order. “Wow!” I thought, imagining an AM station playing “Revolution 9 ” and “Why Don't We Do It In the Road” and whatnot. But it turned out they were LYING, and only played the “famous” songs. Jerks!

Any bass line Paul plays is the best bass line in the universe.
I love Lucy in the sky and Lady Madonna , Rain …too many..my girlfriend learns them all and I am constantly amazed at the simplexity of them all.
Paul is God as far as bass lines go – every bass player should learn every Paul bass line as part of their education.

Hahaha, I already singled out “Nowhere Man ” as being underappreciated!
I absolutely agree with you guys, this is a period when Paul starts playing another instrument than what we usually call “bass guitar”… I posted this in another “favorite bassline” subject but no one seemed to care (forums ) :
'Nowhere Man ' is one that no dude here has taken notice of ! Yet to think of 23-year-old Paul building it up is still pretty unbelievable to me. Being a guitar and bass player myself, I've always been intrigued by that bass line and I once put it down, realizing that Paul hardly ever plays QUITE the same thing from verse to verse. He really invented the walking rock bass line in 'Nowhere Man ', like jazz players swing when they 'walk' ! He does it here in a clear gentle way that fits John's song perfectly. Just try to think how as a bass player you could underline John's melody, hearing the song for the first time… Now imagine yourself in the mid-60s hearing what you hear from the pop charts with no one even paying attention to bass guitars, then you come up with THAT… Purely amazing.
