Kedame, just caught your “My Old Friend” post – a real tear-jerker.

I'd never seen many of those clips/pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Paulsbass, great little documentary on Billy Joel-McCarrtney.

Joel returned the favor at Citifield, but without the drama of the airplane, police escort, etc…

Excellent post, paulsbass…never seen it before. Into the sky…that is a real tearjerker. I got choked up the first time I heard the song and story.

Why was Yvonne left off Press To Play , its such a great song, far far superior to anything which remained on that album? A very catchy tune yet only available unofficially.

I have no idea how Paul came up with Mr H Atom, can only think something was being inhaled at the time.

I think he has said that he really did come up with Mr. H Atom because he heard that men and women are only separated by one hydrogen atom, and it fascinated him.

I love how in Mr H Atom Paul half sings it and half declares it, as if he’s a mad scientist: “well it HAAAS been suggested that the OOOnly difference between a MAAAN and a female…” Makes me laugh.

For my money, the best outtakes are certainly from the Ram sessions.

feature=related

What an incredible song A Love For You is! Totally should have been on the album, would have fit the mood perfectly, as well as featuring one of Paul’s best ever vocal performances, crazy-sounding but effortless high notes.

Also Rode All Night, definitely one of the hardest and grittiest McCartney rockers. If he’d fine tuned it a bit, cut down the length, produced it properly and added a bassline it would have gone down as a solo-Paul Helter Skelter .

I’m also very fond of Cage, a rather wacky outtake from the Back To The Egg sessions, great riff and constantly stuck in my head.

meanmistermustard / Ben Ramon    a real treasure trove.

These will all make an interesting album one day (assuming the concept of an album survives). Love “Yvonne” and “Cage”

“Rode All Night” would take some work. Ben Ramon, sounds like a job for you!

An outtake from Wings At The Speed Of Sound , Must Do Something About It with Paul singing lead.

From the Ram sessions Hey Diddle, a great song to sing along to.

And Same Time Next Year. This was posted earlier but the video was taken down so didnt work. I played this over and over again to the point of overkill upon discovery.

Listening to all this stuff makes me realise how INSANELY prolific Paul is. Who else could have such an enormous backlog of rare material, recorded in quality enough to be put on an album, which has never seen the light of day?

Another outtake I love from the Ram sessions is the slow, psychedelic Sunshine Sometime.

And the hard Wings rocker from 1972 (?) Night Out.

I have looked for that version of Must Do Something About It! Thanks for posting it, mmm!

In regards to Paul releasing this stuff, there have been rumors of a huge outtake/rarities boxset coming at the end of all the remasters, which, at this rate, means right before I die of old age.

Of which it will cost a fortune and only be available as a deluxe edition with tons of stuff we all can live without.

An outtake of Mary Had A Little Lamb. This song has an easy to pick up and sing section, could replace Hey Jude .

Hahaha! You mean in concert? Fat chance of that ever happening! I know if I went to a McCartney concert for the first time, and he didn’t play Hey Jude , I would be supremely disappointed!

Beatles Rarity focused on the “Return to Pepperland (20 Years Later)” version of “Beautiful Night,” which I love even more than the released version. I couldn’t find any info on why the album was never released. Anyone know?

I didn’t want to make a whole topic just for this question, and I didn’t see anything on unreleased Paul recordings, hence the more general title.

Thanks for the link, parlance! I like it better than the FP version, too. Still, it falls a little short of the song’s potential for me. It’s one of those Paul songs that’s GREAT but… somewhat unrealized. I feel the same about “Oh Woman Oh Why” (thin vocal on the high notes; why on earth didn’t he double-track?? Or re-record it after the ’76 tour, when he was at the height of his vocal powers! That woulda been SUPER), “Your Loving Flame” (lyrics overhaul, stat!), “Some People Never Know” (needed more RAM-esque energy/polish), and “Tug Of War ” (the whole arrangement/production needed to be re-imagined, I feel). “Beautiful Night”… I dunno. Maybe a more dynamic contrast between bare-bones verses and big-orchestra-sound-supported “Things can go wrong…” bit. Also I think the fadeout is a copout. It should have a crafted ending.

Sorry for the random yammering! I don’t have any unreleased Paul to share, I’m afraid… :)

No idea but Return To Pepperland  may have been another album in the works that was passed over when we ended up with All The Best. Some of the tracks from that album came out on Flaming Pie singles, Beautiful Night being one of them (hidden in one of the Oobu Jubu parts).

Its a fine album except the words-cant-express-how-bad-it-is PS Love Me Do (wont post it here as it was upped on another thread and nobody deserves to hear such crap once never mind twice).

I used to own a load of Paul bootlegs (Bootlegzone has a massive listing of what’s out there).

There’s a solid argument to be made for a one-stop collection of outtakes from the 70s, but a lot of everything else is stuff that was better left off the albums.

E is for 'Ergent'.

Thanks for the info, what little there is available. I agree, MMM, that remake did not need to happen nor can it be unheard.

Paul himself has had a 2LP set of outtakes in the can since the early 80s, the famous “Hot Hitz and Kold Kutz” set. For whatever reason, it’s never been officially released although it’s super common on the bootleg scene.

That’s a nice version of ‘Beautiful Night’ – thank you parlance. I still prefer the a-hard-days-night-ringo-11 version, however.

I also thank parlance for taking me to the BR site, as I miss having Happy Nat around our Forum. He used to throw tidbits like this at us all the time. He has a nice website.
