Quite possibly my favourite Paul song ever. The count-in, heavy guitar and echo on the vocals are unbelievably awesome throughout, the same for the scrunching solo. But more than that the lyrics are fantastic. I really do like songs that admit that mistakes will be made in relationships and that have an air of frailty and vulnerability instead of we will walk thru live hand and hand under bright blues skies as the sun shines down and birds gently flap their wings to keep us cool.

Its freakin’ awesome.

When I first was discovering Paul, playing small handful of vinyl LPs and singles on a record player (took a while for me to get Paul solo cassettes, longer to get CD’s) ‘McCartney II ‘ was one of those albums and this was the song that instantly grabbed me and kept me going back to that album. Who knows how many times I played the trio of ‘Temporary Secretary ‘, ‘On The Way’ and ‘Waterfalls’ in a row (‘Nobody Knows’ was never in the same class). It helped that before we had ‘McCartney II ‘ we had the ‘Waterfalls’ single so knew and loved that as well.

It is an unusual song in the Macca canon for those lyrics, indeed. I’ve always liked the production on it, the ambience of the drums and guitar, and I’ve often wondered how he produced it, because that’s a very difficult thing to get down solo. I suspect he must have “bootstrapped” the performance until he got at least the feel right on one of the instruments and rerecorded the others until they matched.

I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe.  This has been true for 2016 & 2017 Sig-Badge.png but I may have to get more specific in the future.

Thanks to mean mr. mustard for that recommendation.  I don’t recall that song from McCartney II the first time I listened to it decades ago, when my mind was a bit narrower.  It’s an interesting song and perhaps unusual in its cynicism dressed up in sarcasm.  I’m a bit weary with pop culture veering towards that over the past like 60 f***ing years, so excuse me for rubbing my eyes in jaded fatigue.  Nevertheless, Paul does it well musically.  I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite, not by a long shot.  But it’s a nice temporary antidote to “Love Songs” (like a shot of tequila) — even though I prefer “Love Songs”…

A ginger sling with a pineapple heart,

a coffee dessert, yes you know it's good news...
