As a musician myself, I’ve often composed little ditties with my kids’ toys. Of course no one compares to these guys:

I FINALLY got around to listening to this whole album, and omg it’s so good. I listened to it like five times last night. This might be my new fave Paul McCartney album.

Yippee! Glad you found it to be a pleasure. It is vying for my first place, #1 McCartney album with “Tug Of War .” I may just have to call it a draw for 1st place.

Glad everyone is liking it so much.  I really liked it as well but have a few marginally ahead of it; including Ram , Band On The Run and Venus And Mars – and I haven’t even listened to anything post 1980 yet apart from New and Broad Street.  But I do have it marginally in front of London Town which I also like a lot so that must be a good sign.

^add Tug Of War to that list. Apart from the two Stevie Wonder collaborations, that album is a masterpiece!

It’s probably the keyboard sound at the beginning after he says “Okay,” which is repeated at 0:45, 1:44 and 2:43.

You’re good at this.I listened to the song noting your times. I think you are right.

Paul saying “Okay” before playing the toy brings two pictures to mind.

First image: a technologically-challenged grandpa trying to figure out how to use a child’s toy. “Okay, I think this is the right button.”

Second image: a rock-n-roll superstar who can’t believe he is really about to put this toy into one of his songs. He is wondering if it will go over well with his listening public. “Okay, here goes.”

I completely forgot What’s That You’re Doing existed, an atrocious McCartney/Wonder concoction. It should be noted however that Paul wrote Ebony And Ivory by himself, Stevie only added vocals, and not even at the same as Paul did.

Paul writes with two music legends in the form of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder and nothing they did is worth spending 3 seconds or 3 pence on.

On Tug Of War the worst tracks are the collaborations (the other being Get It). Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

I’m kind of relieved to know this, haha.

But then his collaborations with Elvis Costello are excellent. And even though it’s not my thing, the Fireman project is well-respected. Maybe he was having off years. Maybe giving in to the urge at the time, to paraphrase MJ, to write some hits just didn’t serve him well.

Well, as noted in another thread I never skip tracks; but anyone else is most welcome to go for it :)

I’m not a big Stevie Wonder fan at the best of times, and suspect that their two styles just don’t marry together well.  I have only heard the single off it so far and find it not TOO bad.

Paul’s work with Elvis Costello is fantastic, that partnership has to be the best Paul had away from John. I know some folks laud the material with Eric Stewart but i’ve liked it.

There is a great bootleg out there that compiles a load of demo’s Paul and Elvis recorded along with live performances of thoe material and other odds and ends. Well worth hunting down.

I’m the same as trcanberra in never having been a Stevie Wonder fan, never got the appeal.

I’m a huge fan of his 70s material, and as you might remember, it was a huge thrill to see him in person at the airport when I was coming back home from Paul’s concert. Really a squandered opportunity with those two.

You guys, this is on Melrose Avenue right now! I almost had an accident when I saw it. Taking the photo turned into a Beatley moment with a stranger, so I’ll post more there. Edit: Posted.
