‘Same Love’, ‘Love Come Tumbling Down’, ‘Atlantic Ocean’, “Love Mix’ and ‘Don’t Break the Promise’ will probably be on the 2050 Archive release of ‘Flaming Pie ‘ as they were first released on singles from that. You’re being far too hopefully for the deluxe ‘Press To Play ‘ in 2050 as that was a bit of a dip for Paul sales-wise and so can’t be seen as existing until the more successful releases are out as well as the 50th, 60th, 70th and 75th anniversaries of ‘Band On The Run ‘.

Those songs were first released during the Flaming Pie era, but they don’t date from that era; by that logic, “Lunch Box/Odd Sox” would’ve been on the McCartney II Deluxe Edition instead of the one for Venus And Mars (and “My Carnival” would’ve been omitted from the latter as well).  ahdn_paul_01

Honestly, I get the feeling that Flaming Pie will be the next one released. I mean, since completing all the titles that were initially announced, they’ve been more or less releasing the albums chronologically by critical acclaim/popularity (granted, Pipes Of Peace got released with Tug Of War because the 2 albums have various connections)… and, since Off The Ground wasn’t that well-received and Flaming Pie was, it’s gotta be next, right?  a-hard-days-night-paul-7 (Of course, if they really want to get my goat they’ll go with Tripping The Live Fantastic a-hard-days-night-paul-4)

I know but this is Paul and I don’t think there will be much additional material to get -the uber-super-deluxe with 146 page booklet, recipe for Linda’s Flaming Pepper Pie, 43 limited edition replica colour drawings by Jeff Lynne, HD image of Paul and Ringo in the studio together, and 1 CD, 1 DVD and 23 songs to download exclusively online as that’s the cool way to keep up with the kids. Songs need to be found from somewhere.

Are there any actual discernible differences between the ‘original’ demos and the ’88 ones?

EDIT: Never mind, I found the answer; the former were only recorded with Elvis, and the latter were recorded with his backing band.

Has anyone listened to the demo of ‘Distractions’, free to download from Paul’s website? Was listening to it last night and it’s a gorgeous ballad which really relaxes you; I was walking at the time and was lost in the peacefulness of the recording.

Until at the very end these loud noises came on and I got the biggest shock whilst listening to music I’ve had for a very long time. I even thought a car was screeching near me and I was either going to get run over or witness an accident.

^^^ Those noises are quite jarring. I thought it was kind of clever to put them in, though: It distracted me from hearing the rest of the fadeout. a-hard-days-night-george-10

It may be discussed in some other topic here, but Elvis Costello could use all our good thoughts now. He’s battling cancer and had to cancel a concert tour. He sounded optimistic in his public statement about it, but we all know how some of these stories have turned out, even when the person is upbeat that they “they caught it early,” etc. Besides being a great songwriter and a rock icon in his own right, he’s a father of three; his and Diana Krall’s twin boys are only eleven.

I discovered his music and the Beatles’ both the year that Spike and Flowers In The Dirt were released. I saw them both (Elvis and Paul, that is) in separate concerts a few years ago, within a few months of each other. Paul was in a big arena with his whole band; Elvis was in a more intimate theater, doing a mostly solo show, although he brought up a few guest accompaniments (one was Jim James; the New Basement Tapes album was scheduled for imminent release). In both cases they went on for hours and I got to hear decades’ worth of great songs.

My favorites of the Paul/Elvis co-writes are “That Day Is Done” and “Veronica.”

Absolutely!!!! (and welcome!) I have always been a huge Elvis Costello fan (we named our first cocker “Elvis” and, no, not Presley) and was thrilled to pieces when he began to collaborate with Macca.

A CD of their co-written songs would have been fantastic.

So yes, all the best to you, Elvis!

Filmed at Hog Hill Mill in 1987-88 for possible use in a documentary to accompany the release of this album, the following is (mainly) unused footage from the ‘Put It There’ documentary.

First off we have reasonably complete segments from the demo sessions with Elvis Costello:

00:00 – Tommy’s Coming Home demo session – Sept. 9th, 1987
00:55 – My Brave Face (Fast Version) demo session – Feb. 1st, 1988
04:17 – Twenty Fine Fingers demo session – Jan. 26th, 1988
09:42 – Tommy’s Coming Home demo session – Sept. 9th, 1987
14:31 – My Brave Face (Fast Version) demo session – Feb. 1st, 1988
17:15 – My Brave Face (Slow Version) demo session – March 1988

Followed by several much shorter glimpses inside the studio:

0:00 – Figure Of Eight recording session – Nov. 9th, 1987
0:14 – Motor Of Love / Don’t Be Careless Love recording session – April 22nd, 1988
0:49 – Figure Of Eight recording session – Nov. 9th, 1987
1:16 – Put It There recording session – April 22nd, 1988
3:37 – This One recording session – Late May, 1988
5:39 – Put It There recording session – April 22nd, 1988
6:12 – Figure Of Eight recording session – Nov. 9th, 1987
7:04 – Put It There recording session – April 22nd, 1988
