does anyone else receive the trippiest, most out of this world messages while listening to this album? I mean, everytime I listen to it through, every track just sends some sort of acid related message that I find to be amazing yet confusing.

Offline Well, I don’t do drugs but I imagine that the experience would be partially similar to some aspects of the film (and feel the same with the sequence from my favourite film 2001: A Space Odyssey during the journey beyond the monolith – I believe some off-cuts from the Kubrick film were used in the Flying sequence?).

does anyone else receive the trippiest, most out of this world messages while listening to this album? I mean, everytime I listen to it through, every track just sends some sort of acid related message that I find to be amazing yet confusing.
The answer is somewhere in the cellos… I mean, who IS that sawing away at this exquisite instrument during ‘Blue Jay Way ‘ & ‘I Am The Walrus ‘? George had described LSD, as viewed under a microscope, to resemble something like “old rope”… The inner conflict that inevitably transpires under the influence has you wanting to sever that “old rope” (which has been intricately woven from hemp fibres from last autumn’s harvest, the Navy uses it for there is no other that stands up to it in fortitude)… Enter the cello that ultimately defines both these timeless Beatles’ classics… Ringo had instructed them to “cut the cable” the previous year… The cellos saw away here and even appear to be underwater during ‘I Am The Walrus ‘… They probably should have listened to their wise old drummer who did bloody warn ’em but somehow the Yellow Submarine stayed afloat through all odds…:-)

Offline Sounds to me like you’re either tripping right now, Billy R, or been listening to MMT too much.
I totally love I Am The Walrus . It’s just brilliant. Otherwise I actually find the rest of the songs from the movie (MMT, Fool on the Hill, Flying , Blue Jay Way ) to be TOO acid-influenced – – really the weakest album side the Beatles ever put out. The material sounds like it’s trying too hard to recapture the innovation and magic of Sgt. Pepper and to be just so oh wow super trippy. And the cover photo with the animal costumes – – – come on, guys? In fact, instead of “Magical Mystery Tour ” I’ve taken to calling this album “Whoa! Way Too Much Acid!!”
Revolver and Sgt. Pepper were both created during heavy acid ingestion and don’t have this trying-too-hard feel, to me. So it’s not just the LSD. I think they were struggling to follow the amazing success and universal acclaim of Sgt. Pepper and were mourning the loss of Brian Epstein and just weren’t terribly inspired.
Just my opinion – I know others disagree.

Nah… Gave up the chemicals back in the 90’s… Still enjoy some Psilocybin though…;-) Funny thing is after I re-read that post, Ringo I believe actually says “drop the cable” instead… so I guess that they listened to their drummer after all and dropped some “old rope”…:-)

Definitely, disagree. But I am one of those who really delved into their music through psychedelics. Always loved The Beatles of course, but once I heard their ‘trippy music’ while tripping there was no turning back.

Perception is everything. When I first heard this album, as a four-year-old, I obviously had no idea what acid was – I didn’t trip until I was six (just kidding). To innocent little me, all the song titles looked like, and the songs sounded like they were written for kids. Think about it. You had four guys dressed in animal costumes singing songs titled:
Magical Mystery Tour
The Fool On The Hill
Flying
Blue Jay Way
Your Mother Should Know
I Am The Walrus
Hello, Goodbye
Strawberry Fields Forever
Penny Lane
Baby You’re A Rich Man
All You Need Is Love
If you wish to think of it as too acid-influenced (and that very well may be the case), that is how it’s going to sound. Again, perceptions…
For me this is the album that, sometime in 1968, made me fall in love with The Beatles.
