Discussions on how to reduce the White Album to one disc (i.e. how to "essentialze" it) are popular, but I'm not sure whether we've had suggestions on how to put the "essential" version of Let It Be together out of all the material that's been released (original album, singles, Naked, Anthology...). How about your "perfect" Let It Be then? Maybe it's not even called that but Get Back? Here's mine:
- Two of Us (Let It Be)
- Dig A Pony (Let It Be)
- I Me Mine (Naked)
- Teddy Boy (Anthology 3)
- One After 909 (Let It Be)
- Across The Universe (Anthology 2)
- The Long And Winding Road (Naked)
- I've Got A Feeling (Let It Be)
- For You Blue (Naked)
- Don't Let Me Down (single)
- Mailman, Bring Me No More Blues (Anthology 3)
- All Things Must Pass (Anthology 3)
- Let It Be (single)
- Get Back (single or Let It Be - not sure...)

What about Teddy Boy off the "McCartney" album, does it count?
"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been.. I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene.. Banjos! Banjos! All the time, I can't forget that tune.. and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

Two of Us (Let It Be)
Across The Universe (Unreleased but bootlegged Glyn Johns Mix)
I've Got A Feeling (Let It Be)
One After 909 (Naked + 'Danny Boy' from LIB)
The Long And Winding Road (Anthology 3)
Don't Let Me Down (single)
As obvious from the list i find that Spectors Let It Be works well overall but needs a few tweaks.
The lengths of the two jams work (any longer and they would be off), and thats the issue i have with Teddy Boy, well 2 issues - the length and also its a blatant work in progress.
The jams on Anthology 3 are crap pointless edits so if here or on a bonus album i'd go put them on complete.
If you havent heard the Glyn Johns mix of ATU check it out, its awesome, best version ive heard.

Weeeell, the Anthology jams may be crap & pointless, but surely not as much as "Dig It" and "Maggie Mae"?
(You may now "flame" me if you so desire.)

What, flame you for starting another Let It Be thread when there are already at least 2 or 3 that would've covered the topic nicely?
I personally would like to see an expanded, messy "Let It Be" with equal time for the rooftop concert, the "acoustic concert" from the next day, the best of whatever covers they did during the month, and such extra crap as the COMPLETE "Dig It", "Get Off", the feedback/Yoko jam and other uncommercial stuff.
I remember George saying 'Blimey, he's always talking about “Yesterday”, you'd think he was Beethoven or somebody' - Paul McCartney

For Let it Be to be "perfect", it would have to be re-recorded. Except for: Let it Be (album version - by far the best), Don't Let Me Down (obviously should have been included), Get Back, I've Got A Feeling and I Me Mine (it actually WAS re-recorded. That's why it's a good version.)
Sont des mots qui vont très bien ensemble.

interesting topic ! IMHO, the original title and artwork ( Get Back ) should have been retained, and I think for the most part, the 'concept " of version 2 ( or is it 3 ?), was pretty good, except the wrong takes in some cases were used, and the in between banter could have been tightened up a bit. I also would have started the lp with "Get Back ", and ended side one with " All Things Must Pass". "Teddy Boy" probably should have been left off; I Me Mine could have replaced it instead. It's actually too bad more of George's tunes weren't used as he was writing the best stuff at that point. It's a shame more effort wasn't put in, because this could have been a great Beatle record. Can't listen to the Spector LIB.

I have always preferred Let it Be... Naked to Let it Be and the Naked version is one of my favorite albums. I would also suggest the basis of the album being Glyn Johns' second Get Back mix. Rocker and Save the Last Dance For Me should be omitted, both of them being replaced with a polished version of Madman, from the studio outtakes, and different, slightly cleaner versions of Don't Let Me Down, I've Got A Feeling, and Dig A Pony. I was also thinking possibly replacing Maggie Mae with a jam of one of their own, early songs that they jammed to in the Get Back sessions, possibly You've Really Got a Hold On Me or Love Me Do. The studio chatter should be cut down, but still left in. I like the raw feel that it gives the album. If it was possible at the time, they should have had George Martin reproduce the whole thing!
I don't expect you... to understand after you've caused so much pain. But then again, you're just a human... a victim of the insane.

Again, I'll refer you to my personal reconstruction of the album:
Like the movie "Superman II," there will never be a 'perfect' version per se, but, with what's available, this comes about the closest for me.

I made this revision of the back cover.
I Me Mine would be Naked. Don't Let Me Down would be Rooftop.

Out of interest which version of the rooftop 'Don't Let Me Down' would you go with? John messed up both by forgetting lyrics and so Apple created their own concoction for the totally unedited, as recorded at the time with no overdubs or changes or anything anywhere 'Let It Be Naked'.
