The problem for me is not the production of the songs, it's just that most of the songs are pretty weak imo.

Across The Universe: I like the Past Masters version best. I do like the girls' background vocals and the Beatles' backing vocals. But if I had to choose between LIB and Naked I'd go for LIB.

Let it be: I like the orchestra so I prefer it over Naked

I Me Mine: LIB version. Same story, love the orchestration.

Long and winding road: I think the orchestra adds so much more emotion to it.

Then I also prefer the LIB version of For You Blue and think they should've added Don't let me down to LIB.

The rest either sounds pretty much the same (to me anyway) or I could've done without (like Maggie Mae or Dig it, or I Dig A Pony)

So yeah, I don't really think Naked adds that much.

Was just reading that it's already the 10th anniversary of Let It Be... Naked. Wow.

1/2 of me thinks to play it in remembrance, the other how much it bugs the hell out of me. Great music, crap outcome, bullshit promotion.a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

Yes, unlike the With the Beatles anniversary, I didn't feel compelled to pull it out.

As the years have gone by, I like LIB...Naked less and less, to the point that I never listen to it (apart from the original/proper speed version of Across The Universe). I prefer the original LIB album, warts and all. The frankenversions of songs on Naked kills it for me. I have all the alternate versions on bootleg anyway, LIB...Naked is irrelevant for me.

You know what I'd love to see? Sgt. Pepper's... Naked. What does Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite sound like with only guitar, bass, drums, and vocals? Not much, probably, but it'd be interesting. My problem with Let It Be... Naked was really that the songs weren't different enough. It's really just a replacement for Let It Bethere's not really that much reason to have both. But Paul, Ringo, or George Martin, if you're reading this make Sgt. Pepper's... Naked happen!

Just listened to Naked today for the first time (and a welcome relief it was from the Two Virgins yesterday).  Some initial thoughts:

  1. Damn, The Beatles are one fine band!!
  2. They should have just got this out the door after they recorded it - one fine album.  If they couldn't agree on this they were REALLY in disarray.
  3. It's ironic that Paul apparently didn't like the Spector version as his is the most distinctive voice on it.  With this one - apparently Paul's attempt to rewrite history - the addition of Don't Let Me Down makes Lennon's influence more apparent; and in my view gives the album a better balance.  Maybe this was a nice gesture to John.
  4. I like the sound of it, more of a studio feel, while the original can't seem to decide what it is.
  5. I still like the original but think this one will be my 'goto' now.

I'll add any more thoughts (if I have any) when I have heard it a few more times.

Earlier on in this thread (I think), I saw someone say that Paul was being selfish by putting more of his songs on the first side, when John/George's are on the first side of the original and that Paul gave himself the opener (Get Back) and closer (Let It Be) on this because he was selfish.  (And why can't I look through? Four clicks is wayyyy too much work) This doesn't make any sense because this was a) primarily a CD release, hence, only one side. b) There's actually one more John song, with the addition of Don't Let Me Down (Dig It and Maggie Mae aren't really songs, nor are they purely him), and c) he has the opener (Two of Us) and closer (Get Back) on the original LP, too.

I agree - I really noticed the increased presence of John throughout the album - and feel the track order is spot on.  There is real power with Across The Universe leading into Let It Be - just a stunning conclusion.

Just listened to Fly On The Wall - only 21 minutes or so - why bother with a 2nd CD?

Reminded me of herding cats - while the booklet gives an indication, hearing it live really makes the prattle even more evident.  Shame they didn't have more of the jams that went on during the filming.  Interesting for what it was I suppose but seems like a bit of a missed opportunity for something better.

I listened to the naked version of  "Across The Universe" on repeat for 45 minutes today. I just couldn't get enough of it.

That was one of the tracks that really struck me as special when I heard it.

These two let nobody down.

this is from the Crossroads concert but I read they reprised this for the upcoming Ed Sullivan night special.

Be interesting to see how that version measures up to this. Note ryan fluffs a line same as John did and he also loses his guitar sharp mid solo.

But great stuff.

I've been searching Purple Chick's A/B Road for all the little bits that make up the Fly on the Wall CD. I've found where all but a few of them go, and I was wondering if anyone else has been insane enough to try this!

Here are the bits I cannot seem to find:

1) just after All Things Must Pass: George talks about "no overdubs" (I have since found this!)
2) John says "good afternoon" and something about 50 press officers
3) The "Get Back" which is followed by John saying "What're you tryin' to do here, er, Jazz is it?"
4) Ringo says "Mornin' camera" (I have since found this!)
5) John mentions "A Day In The Life" and George talks about "things that have worked out best haven't really been planned" (I have since found this!)

Any help?
