This is not just a post about Yoko’s music, but her influence on John.

I took a bit of a break, but now I am back to listening to everything in chronological order (+ the Elvis catalog).

I’m up to 1970. I just wanted to say that when I listened in order to the music from 1969, I could basically hear The Beatles falling apart, and Yoko was right there in the middle of it.

Her experimental albums with John can become tiresome really fast if you are not in the right mindset. It may have been very therapeutic for John, but I can see how everyone else felt at the time as well. It’s like Abbey Road emerged miraculously from a big, noisy sea of “fuck you.”

it’d have been great if john would have had that interest in exploring noise and conqrete stuff together with paul. Mainly because that would have extended their musical partnership a bit longer and the results might have been amazing.

Which kind of asks the question of why didn’t Paul and John do some more exploring with experimental music when the opportunity was there. It didn’t need to be classified as Beatles, especially when Apple came about as it wasn’t like they wouldn’t have been able to get it released. They could have reunited The Nerk Twins.

John obviously got wrapped up in Yoko but Paul did have a history and large interest in playing with tape loops and making weird tapes.

I wonder if this is something that irked and wounded Paul – all the years Paul had been playing about and it was really only with Yoko that John jumped in and took it on to such levels.

I’m sure he was irked by that, among other things.

Presumably his boredom and eternally stoned manner kept him from delving deeper than the few home demos and little bits that found their way into Beatles recordings. It was only after India when he came back more awake that he hooked up with Yoko and made ‘Two Virgins ‘.

Also makes me wonder that if John was with us now would he want ‘Carnival Of Light ‘ to come out as it was very much Paul’s thing and pre-dates ‘Revolution 9 ‘ by 15 months or so. Would he care or looking back call it shit and see it as embarrassing.

Maybe John would just drop it online not caring about what everyone else would say.

Along those same lines, Paul was living in London and had easy access to the lectures and happenings that were going on involving the use of different sounds and techniques. Meanwhile John was living out in the sticks, as mmm put it, bored and stoned.

Yoko is reissuing 11 albums from her catalogue.

http://www.rollingstone.com/mu…..ct-w437937

I probably won’t be buying these since I already own the entire catalogue. But if anyone else here is interested in checking her out, here you go. I don’t regret buying her albums, they are very good.

The only bonus track I don’t have in the first batch is the extended version of “Why,” so unless the remasters just blow everyone away, I’m not interested yet.

I like Yes, I’m Your Angel off of Double Fantasy , but there isn’t much else that I’ve heard and liked. What would you recommend me listening to to get turned on to Yoko’s music? I definitely won’t be buying her catalog until I’ve heard more that I enjoy.

I’m assuming you don’t like the more experimental, screamy pieces. I would recommend starting with her most recent studio album, Take Me To the Land of Hell.

There is a song on that called Leaving Tim that reminds me of Yes, I’m Your Angel.

Why are the 11 albums being released over the next few years and not getting released all at once; individually and in a box?

Box sets are cheaper than buying all the albums individually. Yoko wants to make bank, not save the money of her fans.

The CDs come out to a little over 16.50 a piece and you get a T-shirt with each order. It’s not robbery.

Idk, Expert Texpert… $16.50  is kind of expensive for one album. I guess as a shirt and album combo it’s fine, but I would personally want a choice to forgo the shirt since whenever I get a free shirt like that they’re almost always too big and ugly anyways like the one I got with RAM when they remastered it. I was super excited about the RAM shirt but then I got it and it’s like this weird grayish/brownish color and it’s really not even wearable so I just wear it to bed. ):

The only took stuff I’ve heard is the stuff on John’s albums (Two Virgins , LIfe with the Lions, Wedding Album , Some Time in NYC, Double Fantasy , and Milk And Honey ).  I don’t hate her on John’s albums, but I usually can’t wait to get back to John singing.

George Harrison ‘s albums are about 15.00 on Amazon. Is that too steep for you?

Yeah actually that is too steep for me, and those don’t even come with shirts! I guess I wouldn’t know what a reasonable price is, though, because I don’t ever buy music. I have gotten pretty much all my music as gifts.

The early period, 1970-1981, is good. She picks up again with Rising in 1996.

Blueprint for a Sunrise, Between My Head and the Sky, Rising, Take Me to the Land of Hell, Approximately Infinite Universe, Plastic Ono Band, and Fly are her best albums.

Several people on here don’t actually buy any music.
