Since there's already a thread like this for Paul, I figured I'd make a similar one for John. Hey, it's only fair that they each get one, right? a-hard-days-night-john-1

1. Strawberry Fields Forever

2. Revolution

3. This Boy

4. Happiness Is A Warm Gun

5. Don't Let Me Down

6. I'm Only Sleeping

7. Twist And Shout

8. You're Going To Lose That Girl

9. All You Need Is Love

10. Yes It Is

11. In My Life

12. Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite

13. If I Fell

14. I'm So Tired

15. Come Together

16. Tomorrow Never Knows

17. Hey Bulldog

18. I Feel Fine

19. One After 909

20. Glass Onion

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

Yeah... You could say that I like John's presence on the White Album .

He goes missing during the middle section of the album tracklist, which is a minor nitpick, but he nonetheless has a strong overall presence at the beginning and ending sections. He has about the same number of songs as Paul, I think, which is nice.

1.The Beatles 2.Sgt. Pepper 3.Abbey Road 4.Magical Mystery Tour 5.Rubber Soul 6.Revolver 7.Help! 8.Let It Be
9.A Hard Day’s Night 10.Please Please Me 11.Beatles For Sale 12.With The Beatles 13.Yellow Submarine

Mmm. Relatively sober John wrote some damn good songs in India. The White Album is his peak I would say, although Rubber Soul is also a great example of his pure songwriting ability.

I’m giving his solo career a run as well. Here’s my top 20. I could easily make a much longer list, but I’ll keep to the spirit of the thread.

What a remarkable set of songs. Any artist would love to have these in their catalogue. John has them, as well as everything with The Beatles.
