Too be honest, I’m apathetic about John’s death. He lived a good 40 years which is a lot more that millions of other people.

You’re right. We’ve remembered him for enough years. We should probably stop now.
Except I don’t really think that. And I think you will probably change your mind about 40 being enough when you’re 40.

That’s not what I was saying, I was stating my own feelings. Also, I don’t know John, I know of him which makes it seem different, like when a fictional character dies on a TV show. There are worse ways to die and worse ages.
I is not we.

Personal feelings are personal. Everyone got a different outlook on life. Even John and Yoko had their different of opinions about certain things.

I don’t pay any attention to John’s murder today, nor do i pay attention to George’s death on 29th November. I know of them but don’t go seeking out songs, plays films etc.

Remembering and thinking about John today. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that day, it’s still very fresh and vivid even after all this time. I choose to not dwell on his murder though. Rather, I choose to think about his life, his message.
There’s a song that goes “let there be peace on Earth, and let it begin with me.” John and Yoko always said we CAN achieve peace if we want it. I still believe that. Let peace begin with each and every one of us.

It doesn’t do John an injustice to remember him on the day he was murdered. Catholics always remember a person on the day of their death.
Early Christians didn’t celebrate birthdays because it was a pagan thing to do and the day of death is when we go to God .

I can’t help but remember his death every year on December 8. I don’t get maudlin about it and sit around listening to poignant songs and weeping, but I do remember. Back then there were no cell phones, no internet. If you didn’t happen to be watching TV or listening to the radio you might not hear news until well after it actually happened. I guess the TV was off in my house on 12/8. I was 13 years old, we used to have to get up for school before sunrise. My sister always got up about half an hour before I did, she was in high school, I was still in middle school. So on 12/9 she came in and woke me up early, telling me John Lennon was dead. I thought for sure she was making a sick joke, but then I turned on the radio and “Imagine ” was playing and I knew it was true. I just remember laying there as the sun slowly began to rise and the light peeked through the curtains, listening to the DJ play Beatles and Lennon tunes and somberly eulogize him…

I was 10 and I have no memory of it.
I was already a huge fan – the first record I ever bought with my own money was Live At The Hollywood Bowl at the ripe old age of 10…by the age of 13 I was a confirmed Beatlemaniac, and a particular fan at that time of John’s…

I bought Lady Madonna when I was in grade school, and we bought Let It Be (the album) sometime between when I was 10 and 12. I used to listen to those and we had seen the Bee Gees Sgt. Pepper movie, but nobody in my family was a big Beatles fan. I wish I had a memory of it. Probably the extent of my experience was seeing a gathering of people outside the Dakota on the news.
