Yes, the interviewer Selina Scott said that John “was no angel”. George responded: “He wasn’t, but he was as well.”

One of my favorite George quotes.

This is a tough watch, just over an hour of ABC News material from the week after John’s murder. The first 14 minutes show the crowds outside The Dakota in the days after, without any commentary, along with footage of the comings and goings through the service entrance, which include Julian arriving and leaving. The remaining roughly 47 minutes are ABC News’ coverage of the 10 minute silent vigil in Central Park on 14 December:

Hope you’ve found you some peace out there, John. You are not forgotten here. People everywhere still sing your songs.

Yeah, I miss John and I try not to think about him dying. I played Free As A Bird on piano in my school’s band hall this morning to all the 6th and 7th graders. My eyes water a bit when I play some of his songs. I’m actually getting a chance to go to The Dakota and Strawberry Fields soon. It’s kind of saddening but my friends and I get to honor John and his beautiful music.

Thanks for that Ron. It was indeed a hard watch, but I had to see it. After all this time my emotions are still the same. Grief is the price we pay for love.

This is a film of author Ken Kesey reading his short story “Now We Know How Many Holes It Takes To Fill The Albert Hall”. It’s about both the killing of John Lennon and the demise of the sixties counter culture.

Murder Without Trial, a new 3-part docuseries about John’s murder is in the works. Kiefer Sutherland is the narrator. I’ll need to find someone with Apple TV+ that wants to watch the series with me.

From the article…

The series will include previously unseen footage, including eyewitness accounts and crime scene photography, as well as interviews with Chapman’s psychiatrists, lawyers, detectives, and prosecutors – alongside accounts of some of those close to Lennon.

Apple TV+ said that the team behind the documentary were given “extensive Freedom of Information Act requests from the New York City Police Department, the Board of Parole, and the District Attorney’s office” while making the series.

I’m sure it will still have a narrative that’s approved by the powers that be.

I read that before John was assassinated, Paul had already begun his Tug Of War project, and he said that although he was scheduled to go back to the studio to continue working on it with George Martin, he suspended that temporarily and spent the day talking with George Martin about the assassination.  While I certainly respect people’s right to privacy, I still would like to have heard what all they (Paul and George M.) discussed together that day.

I always thought Paul’s drag comment was so appropriate to their (John and Paul’s) relationship and personalities. It’s a phrase they both used. It comes off as flippant, but that was just them. At that point when asked I imagine Paul was numb and in disbelief that John was no longer alive. It’s the passage of time that makes it feel real. His grieving is for him and I don’t feel like I need to hear what was said or how he behaved in private. It’s possible he can’t really recall it properly and it’d be a blur.
