I’ll find the proper place to post as I’m sure there is a Ringo appreciation thread somewhere in the forum.
I'm Necko. I'm like Ringo except I wear necklaces.
I'm also ewe2 on weekends.
Most likely to post things that make you go hmm... 2015, 2016, 2017.

I for one am glad john didn’t have bono’s “engagement”.I wish Yoko had had Bono’s ‘engagement’ instead of poor John’s……..Bono and Ono….Would have soon become Ono and Bono and we would have heard no more of either of them.
Ah well……Just a dream. A bit unfair really…… I’ve got nothing against Bono.
Bonono. Ha. That sounds like banana.
@Necko, I know this comment doesn’t belong in this thread, but your joke reminded me of something that I found upsetting. It seems like you have the most extensive song collection in the forum so wondering if you are familiar with the BBC Disk 2 spoken word track called “Have a banana”. It seems like the host is treating Ringo like an ape (“Here Ringo, have a banana if you can catch it”) and everyone is laughing. It was Ringo’s presence in the AHDN movie that brought me into the Beatles scene so maybe I am taking the “joke” to personally.
Its a joke that goes back to the conversation in ‘Crinsk Dee Night‘ (earlier in that episode of ‘Top Gear’ and on the disc) where they are are taking flowers and grapes to Ringo. Nothing to do with apes or anything.
“John: We brought you the flowers, Ring.
Brian: He’s not allowed to talk.
Ringo: Eh?
John: We brought you the flowers.
Ringo: Oh, good.
John: And the grapes.
Ringo: Oh, I like grapes.
Paul: He likes grapes.

I am aware of that track, but I never interpreted it in that way, honestly.
(By the way, I would argue that vonbontee has the most extensive song collection here, not me. I’m getting way off-topic here, so I’ll shut up now.)
@sigh butterfly and @meanmistermustard – the phrase is also from an old music hall song that was popular in Britain in the early part of the 20th century and remembered long afterwards – I even knew it when I was a kid.
And song collections; how many CDs/LPs/DVDs etc are we talking here? Just because we don’t talk about them don’t mean we don’t have ’em 🙂

Thanks guys @meanmistermustard & @trcanberra , my feverish state from last night has dissipated. The whole thing started when I was reading the Ringo interview in Rolling Stone while listening to the BBC sessions. Part of the RS interview takes place at the Beverly Hills Hotel Polo Lounge attended by Ringo, Paul and their wives. The part that peeved me off was when Paul starts pressuring Ringo to drink some wine. Much of the article documents Ringo and Barbara’s hard-earned sober lifestyle, so it struck me as a mean thing for Paul to do. The “Have a banana” part of the BBC show just got stuck in my head and was remembered in the same vein. Thanks for setting me straight and btw Ringo immediately put Paul in his place.
Yes trcanberra, I am fascinated with people’s music collections (the more eclectic the better). If there is a thread for that please point the way and we can compare. @Necko tastes are interesting because he likes to listen to his songs in alphabetical order regardless of genre or mood.
Ok, time to say something John related. The local movie critic was asked “Is a great artist a great artist regardless of the time period? Would for example The Beatles have been popular in the 1920s?” Condensed answer: “To become world famous before the age of 30 requires incredible luck, the equivalent of rolling sevens over and over and over, so it’s very possible that removing any career from its time period would prevent its happening at all. But just for the sake of argument, let’s imagine that the same stars have the same luck – as in, the same opportunities – in another era to show what they have to offer. Would they have the same appeal? I think most would. Obviously, they would have to adjust, but they had to adjust to the tastes and fashions of their own time, too. Most would manage any era just fine. Still, there’s something else to consider here, and that’s that flexibility from one era to another is not necessarily an important measure of enduring talent. Take John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It’s quite possible that if Rock ‘N’ Roll were never invented, Lennon would have been reduced to selling his paintings on street corners; whereas I’m sure you could plop McCartney down in any country at any time over the past 1,000 years, and he’d end up chief minstrel to the king before the age of 22 – and make it look easy. But this doesn’t make one better or worse than the other. We’re just talking about two different ways of being great”. I thought the author had an interesting perspective.
