But were they 2000 recent songs? While I am sure there would be many black-originated rap songs where you would find it in the title (though many of those would spell “Nigga”), I’d also be confident in saying that a large percentage dated back to the first half of the 20th century – when the word was in common usage.

Why would John say he was an only child even though he had two sisters? Like in those information thingys from the sixties, they always say he has no siblings.

Maybe because they were half-silbings?  Maybe he didn’t consider it the same thing.

And maybe because he was brought up on his own, it made him feel like he was an only child.

He also mentioned in some of those that he was an orphan, which hurt Mimi deeply. He had such a f****d up upbringing that it’s no wonder he had some major issues when it came to interpersonal relationships.

Yeah, I thought this could be why. I just find it weird because in Cynthia’s book she says that he adored his sisters, and that seems kind of mean of him to call himself an only child. I guess he was growing up, but at that point he wasn’t.

You’re both right, as it’s pretty well documented that he did indeed like his sisters and kept in touch with them even to the end of his life, although Yoko restricted this as well.

If John had lived, I could well imagine the Lennons and the Allens out for dinner — I’m sure Yoko and Soon-Yi would get along famously.

John Lennon and Woody Allen are my two favorite people.  I can’t imagine Woody Allen warming up to the idea, though.  He only listens to jazz.  But I think it could work.  Allen is definitely not a Beatlemaniac (a plus for John), and the two both live(d) insulated lives.

Didn’t know where to put this, so I put it here. (Hope it’s okay) I have to vent! I am reading “Dakota Days” right now and, no, I certainly don’t take everything that Charlie Swan, the tarot card reader, says as gospel. I know there is gonna be some BS in the book. But, the BS I read last night almost made me scream. According to the tarot card reader, Yoko told him that John was violent towards her and Sean!!! She claimed John kicked her while she was pregnant, and she inferred she was afraid of him. Then, she claims he kicked Sean while he was sitting on the floor when he was about 9 months old (or however old you have to be to sit up). The next day, according to Yoko, she “banished” John to the house on Long Island and she sent Sean with him. Charlie asked her why, if she was so afraid of him, that she sent Sean with John. She blew it off…the nanny would be there; John will be okay with Sean. Now, either Charlie Swan is making all this up, or Yoko made it up as she was the one telling Charlie these stories. Either way..it is outrageous! I know John had a temper and could be “violent” on occasion, but I can not see him ever being violent to Yoko or his kids under any circumstances! Thanks for allowing me to vent!! Has anyone else ever heard that John was violent with Yoko or Sean?

Dunno about all that, but Sean himself has mentioned that John yelled so loudly in his ear once when he was a little kid and had misbehaved that he had to go to the hospital. And among the other emotional abuse John heaped on Julian during the 70s, he also screamed at Julian right in his ears and caused some (minor) permanent hearing loss.

Kind of ironic for a guy who needed his ears for his livelihood, and was terrified of Phil Spector shooting his guns off during the RnR sessions in ’73/’74 not because of a fear of getting shot, but a fear of damaging his hearing… :-?

Thanks for the info…I’d never heard about John screaming into Sean & Julian’s ears! Very bizarre! I’ll agree John had a very violent temper (I’m sure he’d confirm that if he were here to ask). But, I don’t think he’d ever go so far as to hit Yoko or one of his sons. And, who wouldn’t be afraid of Phil Spector! Now, he is a rare bird! Don’t know how he lasted in the industry as long as he did what with shooting guns off in the recording studio and all his other bizarre behavior. Anyway, Yoko liked/likes to put a spin on things, as we all know. She wants to have the world see how much she has “suffered” whether it was/is true or not! (Insert sigh here)

Though Yoko is the only person who’s saying that he was violent towards her (and I wouldn’t be inclined to take her word for it), I don’t think that it’s entirely outrageous to consider the posibility that John hurt her/them once, or maybe on various occasions. He was abusive towards Cynthia, wasn’t he? It doesn’t really fit in with the peace and love image that John gave out, but I certainly don’t just dismiss the thought. Having said that, Yoko is a confusing woman who has said other things in the past which are total BS, so who knows?

Indeed, there are so many songs which contain the word ”N—r” in either the lyrics, the title or both. It’s not like it’s forbidden or some huge secret, though it is kind of disrespectful. I’d also feel a bit uncomfortable while listening to such songs.

Oh and I never knew that a Will is a public document. You learn something new every day.

Edit: Didn’t see there was a second page. This post is referring to the first page.

*LOL* I sometimes get lost in threads and miss that there’s more.

Only comment I will make is about a Will being public, since I was the one to say it, there is a simple reason why the majority consider Wills as public documents, if somebody wants to contest it they can’t unless they have seen it.

I have a question that’s been bothering me (I am re-reading Julia Baird’s book on John). And, obviously….nobody can have the answer…this is just for speculation. Why did Julia never divorce Alf? Julia was living with Bobby Dykins and they never married. They had 2 “illigitimate” daughters together (I hate that word). She stayed married to Alf till the day she died. Had she divorced Alf (she knew where he was, so that can’t be it), she could have had a much better chance of getting John back from Mimi since the reason Mimi had him was that Julia was “living in sin.” Had she married Dykins, she could have fought for custody of John. I am truly am amazed by this. Anyone have any opinions on this? Thanks!

Good question. What a bizarre relationship from the start, those two (Julia and Freddie).

Maybe because it was considered taboo at the time (I might be wrong) she wanted to look normal, so to speak?

"White Album - My joint-fave Beatles album along with Revolver. They show the two sides of Beatles. Revolver's very controlled - even though it's also very innovative. The White Album's playful and almost ramshackle. It's like a scrapbook kept by a genius. Fantastic stuff."

Divorce was indeed uncommon at the time, but not taboo. She had excellent grounds. Alf left her to go to sea after she had John. He was gone for two years that time without a word to her or any support money. She had him on dissertion. Even stranger is why Alf didn’t file for divorce after he came home following that two-year absense to find Julia pregnant with the daughter she subsequently gave up for adoption, and starting a new relationship with Bobby Dykins. Just weird any way you look at it. I’m thinking Julia never took her marriage to Alf very seriously. She supposedly married him as a joke, and to get back at her strict father. After they wed, they went to a movie and went home to their respective houses. I just can’t figure why she didn’t divorce Alf, though, so she could get John back which, according to Julia Baird, was all John’s mom cared about (?).
